The Patrol Invest Group, also known as the PIGs (because of the initials of their gang name) and the Security Guards, are a gang acting as a security firm featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.

While superficially appearing nothing like a criminal organization, GTA Vice City describes members of the PIGs as a "gang", as evidenced by games stats, when the PIGs can be declared the player's "least favorite gang" if the player kills more PIG members than those from other gangs. The stats also dubs members of the PIGs "security guards".

Description

The player obtaining a Good Citizen Bonus for knocking over a PIG.

The PIGs mainly operate as a legitimate security force out of DBP Security, but are also involved in some illegal protection services. They patrol the North Point Mall area (northern Vice Point), Viceport, Escobar International Airport and Starfish Island. They provide protection to the Leaf Links Country Club, El Banco Corrupto Grande, the Front Page Cafe, Spand Express, public events and to Congressman Alex Shrub

The PIGs appear many times throughout the story of GTA Vice City. They provide protection for Congressman Alex Shrub and the band Love Fist, and have links to the Vice City Triads, providing protection for their illegal counterfeiting operation. At one point the PIGs attempt to move in on Tommy Vercetti's protection rackets in Ocean Beach; Tommy wipes out the guards involved, and destroys their office.

The leadership of the PIGs is unknown. The only named member of the gang was Dick Tanner, and Tanner was actually part of a European gang, working for the PIGs as a cover, before being killed by Tommy in the mission Autocide.

Behavior

Unlike conventional gangs, PIGs do not congregate or move in groups, but rather patrol the streets separately or travel in Baggage Handlers. The only way PIGs will be able to move in groups is if the player edits the pedgrp.dat file to add PIGs to any of the areas (they are internally named "Gda" and "Gdb", although they use the same model). PIGs are not ordinarily hostile to Tommy, and will only attack in self-defense; PIG members will also attack the player or any pedestrian if they fire a weapon, whether it was aimed at them or not.

PIGs patrolling Starfish Island may attack or be attacked by the Vercetti Gang if they enter the grounds of Tommy's mansion. Likewise, soldiers at the Fort Baxter Air Base will kill the PIGs if they are seen on the road in front of their base. Furthermore, PIGs will shoot and kill any Cubans traveling near or into Starfish Island, as well as any Haitians traveling on the Links Bridge from Little Haiti. North Point Mall PIGs are frequently in conflict with the Sharks gang over turf; police act against both parties when gun battles occur. In addition, policemen will pursue and kill PIG members in the same manner as they do with gang members and street criminals, allowing the player to attain "Good Citizen Bonuses" worth $50 each for each punch/kick/attack delivered to a fleeing PIG member. Player must be careful though, as the PIG (or any nearby PIGs) may attack player with a pistol. Oddly, while being a part of a law enforcement organisation (as security guards), they can be seen, like any other gang and street criminals, being chased by police officers.
