Police Car Change

It's a fact that Rockstar changed the design of the Police Cars in GTA III. Well I have found evidence that the same happened in Vice City. When I didn't have a computer I was really board as I am also temporarily without a PS3. I started flicking through the booklets that come with GTA games (and the maps) and found in the Vice City book, a picture of a white police car under the heading Police (their green in the game). Unfortunately I don't have the game (or the book) with me, so I can't get a scan until Sunday (Aus time). Biggest gta fan ever 06:44, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

I think R* did it out of respect after 9/11. If I remember correctly they changed the livery on the police cars in real life too. MoNK 10:39, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I know that that was the case with GTA III, but why did they ever put the white car into Vice City which was 3 years later (I think)? Biggest gta fan ever 10:58, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Maybe it was something to do with the Beta version?? MoNK 11:00, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Maybe, they probabilly made the book early as well (well at least the basics) to save time later, and forgot to change it. Biggest gta fan ever 11:13, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
In my manual I've got the green-and-white we see in game (this is PC version) and in-game I've got both, the White and The Green+white. Can someone check if the white one is in the ps2 game, as i can't check? ScotlandTheBest 12:05, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Regarding the GTA Vice City police car, there is another image on the next page (under the heading Crime) in the same booklet that shows a Voodoo with green and blue coloration, something I've personally never seen in all the years I've been playing GTA Vice City. Is it possible that this and the white police car are simply versions R* ended up scrapping in favor of the ones we see in-game? EganioTalk 00:14, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Well that was my original idea, and that they forgot to change the book or for some reason, just didn't change it, because I really didn't see why they would make the book before the game before it even came out. Biggest gta fan ever 00:59, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Are you sure it's a Voodoo? It looks like a Glendale in my manual. I'm not sure if it's because I have a different manual or not. MoNK 10:04, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Well we can ask R*. I ask them about every little thing and my e-mail address is probabilly getting farmilliar, so tell me if you want me to do it, but heres their email address: [mouthoff@rockstargames.com] Biggest gta fan ever 10:19, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm not too fussed. I mean it might just be different manuals for different countries. MoNK 14:19, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Well I live in Australia (Eganio knows that), I will be getting my game back off my brother today and then I'll look at the manual and see whats on my next page. Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 23:19, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if we have the same manual, but that's not a Voodoo its an Oceanic Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 07:08, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

To find out if we have the same manual, I scanned in every page, but couldn't get them into one image and I don't want to upload 15 images for that reason. Then I tried e-mailing you's a copy, turns out you can't send attachments through the Special:Emailuser thing and obviousley I don't have your personal e-mail addresses. Too bad, sorry about that. Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 08:50, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
That's the one! I said Glendale because they are similar (And to be honest, I couldn't remember the name of it!) MoNK 10:33, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
OK, I see it now. You're right - it's an Oceanic. Don't know why I thought it was a Voodoo! :-P EganioTalk 01:51, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

BTW, do you guys agree that we should move this discussion to the Police Car talk page? I think it makes more sense to have it there, rather than on my talk page. Besides, it will give other editors the opportunity to discuss this topic with us. Thoughts? EganioTalk 01:59, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Discussion moved from User talk:Eganio to Talk:Police_Car. See these diffs for history. I imported the discussion as a neutral third party. Please continue discussion here. Gboyers talk 03:12, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I origionally posted it on your talk page to tell you, not thinking that it would become this big a dicussion. Now that you see that it's an oceanic, we probabilly do have the same manual. So do we agree that R*probabilly just changed the police car in the last second and forgot to, or just didn't change the book? Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 05:24, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

This page should be renamed to "Police (Vehicle)", because the game says "Police" not "Police Car". --DT-boy 06:17, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Splitting the top-down cars from this article

While discussing the issue of this article's name, why not split the three earliest renditions—the Squad Car from GTA1, the Copper from the London packs and the Cop Car from GTA2—into their respectable articles? This has certainly gone on long enough. - ZS 08:11, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

I have redirected Police (vehicle) to this page. The article won't be moved because when I moved Cop Uniform to Cop (clothing) (because it's only called cop in the game), Gboyers moved it back saying that we don't use disambig brackets unless we really need to. So while the name is not specific we should leave all police cars from all games in the one article, as the first three don't have much information and would be stubs, like Police Cruiser and Police Patrol from GTA IV are very short articles, and I think we should consider merging them into here. The names of the first three police cars should however definitely redirect back here. Thoughts? Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 09:26, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
The names of the polices cars in GTA IV, as well as the early GTAs, are vastly different. If we go ahead with the merge, it also goes against cases where vehicles with even the most minor of spelling and naming differences (like the Mesa Grande and Mesa, and the Buccaneer and Bucanneer) end up with separate articles. wikiGTA also separates cars by their names (although the "Police" is inaccurately named there), resulting in multiple articles for cars of different names. I prefer a "see also" section in the end, as shown in the Taxi and Stretch articles, for examples.
The issue of stubs is more of a case of neglect rather than a lack of information. I've notice this wiki tends to lean towards post-GTA III bias, and I suspect early GTA games aren't given proper attention the same way newer titles do, hence the measly lengths of these articles. - ZS 10:11, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
You have a couple of good points there, which makes not just the police cars, but a few things (like all the different Taxis and minor spelling changes) to be discussed. Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 10:21, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

After some thought I have realized that all the different Taxis, separate articles are for Taxis that are in the SAME games but just have different names (because they are different). So there is nothing to discuss there. I think we need a bit of input from other users about the police cars, and the minor spelling changes should also be discussed (and I will be checking to see if it already has). Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 23:38, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

I think we should separate articles if both the names and eras are different.--spaceeinstein 00:00, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
The biggest problem that I see with that is giving the correct article name to the first three police cars, and the two from GTA IV, and leaving the GTA III era Police in an article with the wrong name (Police Car). Maybe we can put a message at the top saying something like This article is about the vehicle called Police in the GTA III Era, for police cars in other games see the See Also section (or we could name all the cars in that message). Thoughts? Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 00:07, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
As far as the article heading is concerned, it sounds fine. But what's wrong with Police (vehicle) or Police (car) anyway? It seems necessary when naming accuracy is needed. - ZS 12:22, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Here we have a page for each vehicle. Even if it looks different, the Police car is still essentially the same vehicle for the same purpose. If we split it into Police car in GTA III etc, the information on all those pages would be almost identical. So instead we just have one page, and have a section on the different appearances, which makes sense when you think what people would be looking for. If we have a LOT to write about the different appearances, then we could split them up, but still have a central "Police Car" page to discuss the USE of police vehicles, and to describe the different renditions. I think Police Cruiser and Police Patrol are good examples of where the differences are on a separate page, but the similarities are still here on this central page. Perhaps you could make a new page for the GTA III era police cars? Police Car in GTA III Era]] is what we would usually call this, which is nicer than Police (GTA III era vehicle) or some daft wikipedia concoction like that.
As for naming it Police Car over Police (vehicle), the simple answer is simplicity. Brackets and mixed-cases are awkward to use, and makes the pages harder to find. It makes so much more sense to call the article "police car" than it does to call it something complicated. We use brackets when we have to, when there is no other option (when it saves us adding 5 additional words), but this will always use a disambig to make it easily findable. Technically the vehicle is called "Police", so technically it should be at Police, but "Police Car" is closer (and more obvious) than "Police (vehicle)". I favour findability, usability and descriptiveness over minor awkward technical minutia. Gboyers talk 00:28, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
The least that can be done is creating a section dedicated to the various names of the car. I'm still bothered the Squad Car and Cop Car are still referred to as the "Police Car". Imagine the confusion if someone intends to locate these cars in vehicle lists or categories. - ZS 17:45, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

White Police Car

In my manual I've got the green-and-white we see in game (this is PC version) and in-game I've got both, the White and The Green+white. Can someone check if the white one is in the ps2 game, as i can't check? ScotlandTheBest 12:05, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

I have played the console and PC versions extensively, and I can confirm that there is not an all-white Police Car in either of them - I even just checked the "carcols.dat" file for the PC version and it's only coded to be green and white, also, Police Cars never appear in the parking lot that you mentioned in the article... Is it possible you've installed a mod of some sort, and forgotten about it? Hardrock182 15:16, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
I beg to differ. I don't know how these appear, but I have been using a 100% completion savegame when I see an awful lot of them parked anywhere in city. And the color is not hard-coded. Using the pink or black vehicle color cheats will render the police car in pink or black. - ZS 19:46, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
I checked a couple of websites (as well as a couple of YouTube videos), and from what I can tell, the white police cars seem to appear only after 100% completion - I still don't know whether it's a glitch or itentional, or if they appear in the console versions. They also seem to appear in any parking lot, not just the one behind the hotel. Also, I'm aware the police car isn't hard-coded to be green and white.
I do have a %100 save game, that's why...

All these years of playing and modding Vice City and I have never experienced this glitch before. I've read many walkthroughs, compilations of glitches, and the forums and seen no mention of this glitch. It's probably a corruption of some sort if your game is not modded at all.--spaceeinstein 21:57, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

I have finished VC to 100% and I NEVER seen white-white police cars or parking ones. I think it's just a glitch or hoax. --DT-boy 13:55, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
I even posted a video of it... -ScotlandTheBest 17:24, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

But there is one thing that is related: using a downloaded 100% file. If it's not in the original game, then it must be a glitch on that save file.--spaceeinstein 18:16, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism.

Could this be vandalism? that an officer will be asleep in the back seat (he may ask for a donut upon awakening). --Snake. 18:07, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

Different livery markings

In one of the GTA 5 trailers where one of the protagonist is being chased up a vinewood sign there appears to be police cars with differing livery and a sort of police jeep or 4x4 its sort of white with a strip. Its livery isn't the traditional LAPD livery at all.

This is because it is likely outside of the Los Santos city limits, and it is not the LSPD responding. --IanPhoenix (talk|edits) 23:03, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
