Ran Fa Li, also known as Farlie and Mr. Farlie, is a character in the Grand Theft Auto series who appears as a minor character in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (set in 1992). He is the leader of the Red Gecko Tong and Shuk Foo of the Triads. He does not speak, merely grunting, but is voiced by Hunter Platin, who has also voiced Phil Cassidy (in Grand Theft Auto III), Curly Bob, Chico, Rico and The Psycho.
Character history
Ran Fa Li was born in China and at an unknown time joined the Triads, rising through the organisation before moving to the west coast of the United States. He later cemented his place in the Triads and became the Shuk Foo. In 1992 he visits San Fierro and meets the leader of the group in San Andreas, Dai Dai Lo Wu Zi Mu, leader of the Mountain Cloud Boys gang, travelling with his translator Su Xi Mu, who is able to translate his grunts into English.
Carl Johnson first meets Ran Fa Li when visiting Wu Zi and volunteers to retrieve a package from Easter Bay Airport, which he was successfully completed after Wu Zi suggested that using Carl (not a Triad) would draw less suspicion from the recently arrived Vietnamese gang, the Da Nang Boys. Carl later draws Da Nang Boys gangsters to Whetstone from Wu Zi's apartment in Chinatown to allow Fa Li to escape. Fa Li, Wu Zi and Carl later become business partners, taking equal shares in The Four Dragons Casino in The Strip, Las Venturas.
