Talk:Derrick McReary

Its says Derrick is the most compassionate of all the McReary children but wouldn't Kate be the most compassionate? This is sorta random and probably doesn't matter but didn't the IRA not only fight the British but also the Ulster Defense Association? (Stebner603 05:44, 26 August 2009 (UTC))

Article says, that Derrick moved out of city because of father's death in 2000, but Francis said, that he moved out because of stealing from the Mafia. According the bank heist dialogue, last time Derrick seen Packie, Packie was a little sweet boy. But Packie's age is 31 and 8 years ago he was adult. Where did information about 2000 came from and should I change it? Orto Dogge 13:25, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

Derrick is the canon kill choice in GTA IV

I'm doing the Paleto Bay heist in GTA V with Packie on my crew and when talking about the Bank of Liberty that he pulled with Niko and his brothers, he says "God rest his soul" when referring to Derrick. So it would seem Derrick is the one that Niko canonically kills in GTA IV. Ghost Leader (talk|edits) 21:26, 25 September 2013 (BST)

What if Francis died in the meantime too? 5 years is a long time, a lot could have happened.--Loadingue (talk|edits) 21:30, 25 September 2013 (BST)
Plus he did have that heroin problem so its not to hard to imagine him OD'ing sometime after IV.Gtajesus (talk|edits) 23:26, 25 September 2013 (BST)
Maybe Francis built a red metal suit and is living the life of a billionaire playboy crime fighter. There's a lot of maybes in the world, some more ridiculous than others. But when determining canon, we have to go by what the game tells us (unless Rockstar says differently). Packie makes no mention of Francis at all, much less whether he's alive or dead, so his mention of Derrick dying is all we have and it implies he was the one Niko killed. It only implies Derrick is dead, not that Niko killed him (which he wouldn't know anyway). We can't just assume the latter. The way Packie says it, maybe Niko had killed Francis but Derrick died a few months or years later. We cannot know for sure, which was probably Rockstar's point, so that choice in GTA IV doesn't lose value.--Loadingue (talk|edits) 15:25, 27 September 2013 (BST)
I'm with Loadingue on this one. Derrick was a drug-addict after all, so who's to say he didn't die of an overdose or something, between 2008 and 2013? I'm pretty sure Rockstar aren't like 4A Games (Metro 2033 and Last Light), where in the follow-up game they make the other choice made by players in the previous one non-canon, in order to fit the story they're telling.
