Events concerning the Grand Theft Auto series in 2005

Real World

  • The PSP is released in the U.S. on March 24.
  • U.S. release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Xbox and PC on June 7.
  • U.K. release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Xbox and PC on June 10.
  • The Grand Theft Auto Wiki was created on July 1.
  • Production of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was suspended and the game received a revised ESRB Rating of Adults Only.
  • The (OFLC) Office of Film and Literature Classification (Australia) revoked Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas "MA15+" classification (the highest currently available for computer games in Australia), and changed the game's status to "RC" (Refused Classification) on July 29,meaning that the original version could no longer be sold in Australia.
  • Rockstar Games officially released a patch for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on August 10. Nicknamed the "Cold Coffee Patch" by some, the patch fixed many performance issues and bugs. However, the most major addition was that the patch disabled the controversial "Hot Coffee" scenes, even if the "Hot Coffee" mod was reinstalled.
  • Rockstar announced a mandatory recall for all Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas games still owned by the general public on August 24. Consumers who had already purchased the game were allowed to keep it in certain areas, but with the patch installed.
  • The PSP is released in Australia and Europe on September 1.
  • New patched version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released on September 12 and given an "MA15+" classification in Australia.
  • U.S. release of Grand Theft Auto:Liberty City Stories on October 25.
  • U.K. release of Grand Theft Auto:Liberty City Stories on November 4.
