The iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad are a series of multimedia devices created by Apple, and each run on variations of the Apple iOS, a mobile operating system created by Apple. The devices are quite similar: the largest difference between the first two is the telephone functionality of the former, while the iPad can be described as a tablet-sized iPod Touch. Only one Grand Theft Auto game, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, is available for either device.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
GTA Chinatown Wars was quietly released onto the App Store at midnight on January 18th, 2010. The game features the same missions available for the PSP version. One difference is the lack of Rockstar Games Social Club - the bonus Xin missions, which were previously only available after completing the main story line, locating the two Lions of Fo and syncing the device to Social Club, are now available without the use of Social Club. A new radio station allows players to use a custom radio tracklist from their iTunes. This version features the enhanced graphics of the PSP version released after the DS iteration, but re-introduces the touch screen functionality of the DS, replacing the quicktime events supplemented in the PSP port.
On September 9th, 2010, a version of game with enhanced graphics (dubbed Chinatown Wars HD) was released for use on the iPad.
Grand Theft Auto: 10th Anniversary Edition
In October 2011, Rockstar Games announced a 10th Anniversary Edition of Grand Theft Auto III would be released for mobile phones and tablets, including the iPad, iPhone and a selection of Android devices. The game is due to be released later in fall 2011, and support for further devices may be announced. However the only Apple devices that will support the game will be models with the dual core A5 Chip, the only models so far that have this chip are the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S, it will not be backwards compatible to the original iPad, earlier iPhones or any iPod Touch's.
