User:Masterpogihaha has been nominated to become a Moderator. I am nominating him because he has a large number of edits, and seems to understand this wiki well. What do you think is the hardest thing for new editors to get the hang of (whether a technical skill, a policy or just the way we do things here); how would you spot they were having difficulty; and how would you help them? I think that the hardest thing for new editors to get the hang of is how to use different symbols and how to edit properly to be a what would be considered as a good editor. Links, categories and signing their names on talk pages are just some examples. Masterpogihaha 13:07, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Most of the time, I like to cleanup articles. I would know when to clean up these articles since I regularly check the recent edits, and that's the first thing I do when I log in. Also, I would like to make this wiki as best as it could be. One way is to help users who are having a tough time editing, so that they could be good editors someday. Another way is to expand and cleanup articles so that they're very understandable and organized when someone reads them. Masterpogihaha 13:07, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I do love to categorize articles and images. Also, I regularly fix mission pages, which I also like to do. I also fix links that lead to a disambiguation page, as you can see by the many "disambig link" edit summaries I have. I regularly check images, to see if they have a description, the proper template and the proper categories. Masterpogihaha 13:07, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Could you give one example of what you think is one of the best pages on this wiki, and a brief explanation of why you chose that. It should probably be an informational article, but you could use a list or category or similar if you explain why. Gboyers talk 19:17, 30 August 2014

I regularly pay attention to the GTA SA articles, especially for places and missions, and probably a good example is the Doherty article. It states all things necessary in a clean, organized and understandable way. Also, with some very minor cleanup, the San Fierro and Las Venturas articles could be very well one of the best articles in the wiki. Masterpogihaha 13:07, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

You mention the problems new users often have, and that you wish to help them, but how would you go about doing that? This could include action to the page, action to the user, and long-term prevention. Gboyers talk 14:12, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I would first edit his/her mistake, explain to him/her why is it like that, and tell him to do the correct thing in the future, all while being friendly. Always have to have a positive attitude, right? If ever, though, he repeats it again, I'll just have to remind the person again, still being friendly and all. First, about the Vinewood glitch. It is not really worthy or well-constructed enough to be in its own article, so I would probably have moved the content to Glitches#GTA San Andreas and redirected the "Vinewood Glitch" page to Glitches#GTA San Andreas. Second, for the mysteries thing, I would have somehow tried to merge it with the content of Myths in GTA San Andreas, or move it to their respective pages if it is worthy enough. But honestly, everything I could understand from the mysteries article is found already somewhere else (Myths of GTA San Andreas), and it is pretty much unorganized, so I would have simply put the {{prod}} template to the article. Can you think of anything that we (as the wiki, or as staff) could do to help new users understand the wiki better, and to be able to contribute good content earlier? Do you believe they should learn how to edit (eg at Help and Sandbox) before launching head-first into complicated articles (often full of strange code)? Or you do think they should use the wiki to learn, adding content at the expense of article quality (like the above example pages)? There's no right answer, every wiki does it differently, so which would you choose? Gboyers talk 14:37, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I learned to use the wiki by viewing the wikitext source, and comparing it to the article page. I learned how to do links, templates, etc by doing this, so I guess that's pretty good for me. I have this idea of, while signing in as a new user, to tick a box whether you have read the help section or at least one wiki source, but I think some people will just tick it without reading, so, I guess that won't work out well. Another idea is that they should obtain a certain amount of edits first before they go out creating new pages; this is to make sure they're somehow experienced. Probably this will work out better, but I'm not sure how many edits first should you make. Masterpogihaha 14:45, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

As always, I'll contribute greatly to the wiki, but now in a more responsible and aware way, as the staff is somehow the "role models" of the wiki. And, since I'm given new rights/tools, I'll use the extra rights/tools with care and responsibility, and when needed. I'd also like to help out more if I do become staff, as that is one major thing a staff should do. Masterpogihaha 14:58, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
