Dogs were originally to be featured in [[Grand Theft Auto IV]] simply as K-9 units for the [[Liberty City Police Department in GTA IV Era|LCPD]], but they were removed.

It is unknown if dogs will be seen with [[pedestrians]] throughout gameplay, or simply in a particular mission or cutscene, as was true for some features that were shown in [[GTA IV]]'s trailers. In addition, [[Rockstar Games]] have stated in the past that they do not like the idea have having children or small animals in their games<ref>[http://www.gta-sanandreas.com/qa/index.php Questions about GTA San Andreas, answered by Rockstar]</ref>, although dogs were present and killable in [[Red Dead Redemption]], another game by Rockstar.
