Fruit Computers
Fruit Computers is a computer and phone manufacturing company in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. According to their warehouse in Port Tudor, Fruit Computers was established in 1975; one year before its parody, Apple, actually became an independent company. Their logo bears a resemblance to male genitals or even Awesome Face. The logo's color scheme also parodies the Microsoft Windows logo color scheme (with the exception of red being changed to orange). The name, Fruit, may come from Apple's iMac released in 1998,, which was available in "Flavors," such as Lime and Strawberry.
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
In Liberty City Stories, there is a FruitOS user group called "Fruits" (slang for homosexuals) that has a bitter rivalry with the TOS user group called "Tossers" (slang for someone who masturbates excessively). This is a reference to the real-life Windows/OSX user rivalry.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
In Vice City Stories there is a computer called the Fruit LC, a parody of the Apple III, however the name is inspired by the Apple Macintosh LC. The design of the computer is slightly reminiscent of the Commodore PET computer; having the keyboard, computer and monitor all in one casing. According to in-game dialog on Wave 103, the Fruit LC may operate with BASIC programming. Adam First mentions he has finally managed to program a flying triangle that explodes into pixels on the screen. The in-game commercial parodies Apple's "1984" commercial by toying with the nature of the book "1984" where everyone is under control, while this computer will set them free from control, whilst giving them freedom. The "BYE" displayed on the Fruit LC's screen is a stab at Apple Macintosh's famous "hello" image on advertisements.
Grand Theft Auto IV
The CEO of the company in Grand Theft Auto IV is Doug Hatchet (parodying Steve Jobs with a simple first name). He has outsourced all of his employees overseas, except himself. Doug now is the only person in their whole office building and all the company has left in it is a photocopier that doesn't work, and a stapler without staples. In Grand Theft Auto IV, there is a Fruit Cocoon (a parody of the Mac Mini) and iFruit Phone (a parody of the iPhone) advertised on their website. The Fruit Cocoon shares the shape of College Humor's "i": a parody of Apple products and resembles the bottom of an iMac G4. The GUI of browser used in all the computers in-game bears some resemblance to the Safari web browser. There is a Fruit Computers building in Port Tudor, Alderney, however the building seems to be abandoned, as the logo is faded. Fruit computers can also be seen advertised in various computer shops throughout the game. On WTF billboards and advertisements, Fruit Computers is one of the musical's sponsors.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
In Chinatown Wars, the player gets a Fruit Laptop in every safehouse (pink in the DS version, black in the PSP remake). The player is not able to go on the internet, but it features multiplayer functions and e-mail. Also, many characters, including Wu Lee have Fruitcomputers.com email accounts.
