Help:Profile Tools

Revision as of 02:31, 12 August 2011 by Gboyers (talk | contribs) (moved Grand Theft Wiki:Profile Tools to Help:Profile Tools: Help page, not policy)

Profile Tools are a new feature on Grand Theft Wiki, which gives our users the option between a Social user page and a standard wiki-formatted one. There are several components to these tools, including Avatars, Awards, Friends, Gifts and a Userbox generator.

Social Profiles

Users wiki-formatted User pages have been moved to [[UserWiki:name]] (eg UserWiki:Gboyers), and the new social user profiles are visible at [[User_profile:Kirkburn]] (eg User_profile:Kirkburn). Their main user page [[User:name]] (eg User:Gboyers) can display either of these, switched by the button at the top of the page ("Use Social Profile" or "Use wiki userpage").

Avatars

You can now upload your own avatar, which shows up around the wiki. For example, at the bottom of an article you can see the avatars of who last edited.

Awards

Awards are automatically given for reaching certain milestones in editing the main namespace.

Discussion Board

Each user has a comments section on their Social Profile, which is also visible at Special:UserBoard. You can view your conversations with a user at [[Special:UserBoard&conv=name]] (eg Special:UserBoard&conv=A-Dust).

Friends

You can now add any user as a friend, by clicking "Add as Friend" on any user page. Try not to constantly invite people you don't know.

Gifts

You can give gifts (created by Staff) to other users. Visit their user page and click "Send a Gift". You can also send a gift via Special:GiveGift. Gifts you receive appear on your social homepage and at Special:ViewGifts.

Only users in the GiftAdmin group can create and edit gifts. You do this by visiting Special:GiftManager.

Userboxes

New-style Userboxes can now be created at Special:UserBoxes, and viewed at Special:ViewUserBoxes and Special:TopUserboxes. To include a userbox created this way, use the GTABox namespace prefix and include like: [[GTABox:Name]].

Old-Style wiki-formatted userboxes can still be made using Template:Userbox, and naming them as [[Template:Userbox:Name]].

Additional Features

Tags

New tags available for use include:

  • <loggedin>Show something to Logged in users only</loggedin>
  • <loggedout>Show something to Logged out users only</loggedout>
  • <randomuserswithavatars count=15 row=5></randomuserswithavatars> (Show 15 random avatars)
  • <welcomeUser></welcomeUser> (Display any open friend requests, gifts or other social notifications)
  • <siteactivity limit=25></siteactivity> (Visual version of Recent Edits)
  • <widget>name</widget> (include a widget in a page)

SiteScout

Site Scout is a real-time activity monitor that can be found at Special:SiteScout. It works well with the Profile tools, as it shows avatars, votes and comments.
