Liberty State (also referred to as Liberty City State, State of Liberty, or simply Liberty) is a fictional American state in the Grand Theft Auto series that parodies the real world American state of New York. Liberty City is believed to be the capital of Liberty State.

In Grand Theft Auto IV, the State of Alderney is adjacent to Liberty State, but still counts as part of Liberty City in GTA IV. Carcer City was stated to be near Liberty City in the GTA III era and GTA IV Era, and is frequently mentioned throughout the rest of the series.
