There are many myths regarding Grand Theft Auto IV. Only a couple of these really exist. While some were denied by developer Rockstar Games, the rest can not be proved or disproved. Most of these myths are either misconceptions or made up.

Sprunk Factory Ghost

There is said to be a ghost in the abandoned Sprunk Factory in Alderney. When a shot is fired in the factory a voice can be heard telling the player to leave. However, this is, in fact, just a bodyguard from the Honkers Gentlemen's Club, which is nearby, he will run far across the street to the player and attack with a pistol.

Bloody Bedroom

This is not exactly a myth. However, in an apartment in Liberty City, there is an open door. The bedroom has a massive amount of blood strewn about, making it more likely a piece of miscellaneous interior detail. Also, on the mattress on the floor in the main room and in one of the side rooms is a picture of a policeman (identity unknown) with a pile and three lines of cocaine running across it. This may hint to the fact that the resident had a serious cocaine addiction. There is nobody ever seen living in the apartment which probably means that if there was a cop killer there, the killer himself fled from the obviously undiscovered crime scene. It is located on the apartment in Northwood where Jimmy Kand lives.

It should be noted that the same bloody bed prop, is in the room where Niko was sent to kill Teddy Benavidez, on orders from Ray Boccino.

Ratman

The Ratman is believed to be some kind of creature that can be seen in the subways of Liberty City. There are several variations to the fabled "Ratman". Some say he, or it, has sharp claws and teeth, and frightening red eyes, and an incredible running speed, as well as the ability to kill the player instantly. Others say the Ratman is merely a hobo with a unique set of dialogue. There is no proof regarding either.

Ship Wrecks With Ghosts

There are plenty of ship wrecks surrounding Liberty City and one is believed to hold ghosts.

Growling Noises

These are rare, but they can be heard mostly during nighttime when Niko is by himself (i.e. no nearby pedestrians). It's a low growl that persists for a good amount of time, and may scare players if caught off guard. It is not known what causes these noises but it could be a glitch.

video Can be heard around 1:23.

Deep echoed growls are known to occur in Alderney Casino and the Sprunk Factory, It is unknown what they are caused by but they might just exist for atmospheric effect.

Other growling can be explained by nearby Flying Rats or thunder.
