There are many myths regarding Grand Theft Auto IV. Only a couple of these really exist. While some were denied by developer Rockstar Games, the rest can not be proved or disproved. Most of these myths are either misconceptions or made up.

Sprunk Factory "Ghost"

There is said to be a Ghost(s) in the old Sprunk Factory across from Honkers in Alderney, which was featured in one mission to Kill Charlie the Clown.

When a shot is fired in the factory a voice can be heard telling the player to leave. In fact, this is a bodyguard from Honkers Strip Club, which is nearby, he will run far across the street to the player and attack with a pistol. in fact near one of the entrances they are homeless people and its not far away from the street.

But if you can ressist the urge to fire your weapon you will hear breathing. Now on occasions in the game you can hear Niko breath, but Niko breaths vary quietly and its vary hard to hear. In the Sprunk Factory there is light breathing but it is vary different to Niko's, it is vary evil sounding and is a big indicator that there are ghosts living there.

The Heart of Liberty City

There is a beating heart inside the Statue of Happiness, which many players believe to be a myth, but is actually there. in the helicopter tours when you go the one at back takes you to firefly island and the pilot says that they toren the heart out which suggests how the heart got to the statue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqxt_-q8fs8&feature=PlayList&p=7358056262A7ED08&index=0

Bloody Bedroom

This is not exactly a myth. However, in an apartment in Liberty City, there is an open door. The bedroom has a massive amount of blood strewn about, making it more likely a piece of miscellaneous interior detail. Also, on the mattress on the floor in the main room is a picture of a policeman (identity unknown) with three tears/scratches running across it. This may hint to the fact that the resident hated this unidentified policeman for reasons unknown and killed him in his apartment. There is nobody ever seen living in the apartment which probably means that if there was a cop killer there, the killer himself fled from the obviously undiscovered crime scene.

It should be noted, that this room is where Niko was sent to kill Teddy Benavidez, on orders from Ray Boccino.

Ratman

The Ratman is believed to be some kind of creature that can be seen in the subways of Liberty City. There are several variations to the fabled "Ratman". Some say he, or it, has sharp claws and teeth, and frightening red eyes, and an incredible running speed, as well as the ability to kill the player instantly. Others say the Ratman is merely a hobo with a unique set of dialogue. There is no proof regarding either.

Sunken Ship With Ghosts

There are plenty of sunken ships surrounding Liberty City and one is believed to hold ghosts.

Growling Noises

These are rare, but they can be heard mostly during nighttime when Niko is by himself (i.e. no nearby pedestrians). It's a low growl that persists for a good amount of time, and may scare players if caught off gaurd. It is not known what causes these noises but it could be a glitch.
