A News Chopper from GTA San Andreas

The News Helicopter, also known as the News Maverick and News Chopper, is a helicopter appearing in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. It is essentially a 2 door "shortened" Maverick helicopter with News markings. The vehicle is harder to fly than the Maverick due to its free control and can flip over whilst in the air.

There are only two ways of obtaining a News Helicopter in GTA San Andreas: the first is to start and fail the Whirly Bird Waypoint race and the second is obtained a four star wanted level and using a Jetpack to get close enough to the News Helicopter to enter.

In Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories it is technically possible to obtain the helicopter during the mission Calm Before the Storm whilst in Chinatown. Whilst the helicopter can be flown, once outside a certain area the mission is failed, resulting in Toni Cipriani being wasted.

Can be obtained during the mission Calm Before the Storm.

Due to the shorter length and changed game physics for this helicopter, people that regularly fly the [[Maverick]] may have difficulty getting used to this one, mainly because it has free control - in example, you can easily flip over while in air with it, unlike the [[Maverick]] which has lockdowns to prevent this. There is one available in [[Vice City]]: on top of the VCN building, [[Downtown (Vice City)|Downtown]]. In [[San Andreas]], the only known method of obtaining one is by starting a race (known as: "Whirly Bird checkpoint"), failing it and taking it to the private hangar. Another option is by obtaining a wanted level of four stars or more and use the [[Jetpack]] to fly onto the [[Police Maverick]] and wait for the News Maverick to come near enough so you can get into it, although this method is risky. In [[Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories]] it is technically possible to obtain the helicopter by a third party trainer program, however, it has no "skin" and the helicopter will appear either totally white or totally silver depending on the version of the game.
