North Korea, officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is a country in East Asia and the northern part of the Korean peninsula. There are borders to China, Russia and South Korea. North Korea does not recognise the existence or independence of South Korea with the two countries having been separate since 1948 and the current borders agreed to in 1953. North Korea is widely considered a dictatorship, under the leadership of the Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un. The capital is Pyongyang and the currency is the won.
