Planning the Big Score is the first part of the multi-mission final heist in Grand Theft Auto V, given to protagonists Trevor Philips, Michael De Santa and Franklin Clinton by Lester Crest.
Mission
Trevor shows up at the Vanilla Unicorn with Lester waiting outside his office. Lester tells Trevor that he hopes that Trevor can settle his differences with Michael. Trevor tells Lester that he hopes Michael keeps his mouth shut when the heat comes. Franklin then shows up, and Trevor asks Franklin if he's going to keep his mouth shut. Franklin retorts by saying he hasn't squealed so far. Michael then shows up, and he and Trevor gets into an argument. Lester calms the two down and shows them the planning board.
Approaches
Subtle
The subtle approach requires Franklin, Michael and Trevor to intercept two Securicars en route to the Union Depository. The crew then poses as the Gruppe 6 security team, and transfers the gold from the armored cars to 4 specially modified Bravado Gauntlets. To execute the heist, they will need to recruit two gunmen, two drivers, and a hacker, steal a Police Transporter for its tire stingers, and procure and modify 3 of the 4 Gauntlets.
- Gunmen
Gunman 1 goes with Michael and Trevor into the Union Depository to steal the gold, staying in the loading bay while Michael and Trevor retrieve the gold. Once the crew arrives at Mission Row, Gunman 1 loads the gold into the Gauntlets and holds the perimeter once all of the gold is in the cars. Gunman 2 changes the tires on the two Securicars, takes the Gruppe 6 guards to a safehouse, and drives one of the two tractor trailers.
- If Gustavo Mota, Packie McReary, or Chef is chosen as Gunman 1, then they will not lose any gold bars while loading the cars. There are no consequences if any crew member is chosen as Gunman 2.
- If Norm Richards, Daryl Johns, Hugh Welsh, or Karl Abolaji is chosen as Gunman 1, then they will lose gold bars while loading the cars. There are no consequences if any crew member is chosen as Gunman 2.
- Drivers
Driver 1 goes with Michael and Trevor into the Union Depository to steal the gold, staying in the loading bay while Michael and Trevor retrieve the gold. Once the crew arrives at Mission Row, Driver 1 loads the gold into the Gauntlets and drives the fourth Gauntlet once all of the gold is in the cars. Driver 2 changes the tires on the two Securicars, takes the Gruppe 6 guards to a safehouse, and drives one of the two tractor trailers.
- If either Eddie Toh or Taliana Martinez is chosen as Driver 1, then they will not lose any gold bars while loading the cars and will drive their car with proficiency. There is no consequences if either are chosen as Driver 2.
- If Karim Denz is chosen as Driver 1, then he will drop gold bars while loading the cars and will wreck his car during the getaway, causing the crew to lose one quarter of the take. However, if Karim has experience from at least one heist, then he won't lose any gold nor will he wreck his car. If he is chosen as Driver 2, there is no consequences.
- Hacker
The hacker accesses the Los Santos traffic grid so Franklin can manipulate the traffic lights to guide Michael and Trevor safely back to Mission Row.
- If Paige Harris is chosen, there is no delay regardless of her prior experience.
- If Christian Feltz is chosen, there is a two second-delay; however, if he was used in at least one previous heist, then light changes are instant.
- If Rickie Lukens is chosen, there is a four second-delay; however, if he was used in one previous heist, the the delay is reduced to two seconds. If Rickie was used for both the Vangelico robbery and the FIB Building raid, then light changes are instant.
Obvious
- Unlocks Getaway Vehicle, Driller and Sidetracked.
The obvious approach requires Franklin, Michael and Trevor to create a diversion in front of the Union Depository while drilling underground to the vault to steal the gold, then fly it via helicopter to a train leaving town. In order to do so, they will have to recruit two gunmen and two drivers, place a getaway car in the underground parking garage of the Arcadius Business Center and secure a tunnel boring machine and a train.
- Gunmen
Gunman 1 goes with Franklin to burrow into the vault to steal the gold while Gunman 2 goes with Michael to stage the fake robbery. Gunman 2 also assists Michael and Franklin in holding off LSPD resistance while the crew makes their getaway.
- If Gustavo Mota, Packie McReary, and/or Chef is chosen, they will get the gold trolleys ready with no problem if chosen as Gunman 1 and are able to kill more enemies during the escape if chosen as Gunman 2.
- If Norm Richards, Daryl Johns, Hugh Welsh, and/or Karl Abolaji is chosen, they will get the gold trolleys ready with no problem if chosen as Gunman 1 but won't kill as many enemies during the escape if chosen as Gunman 2 unless the selected crew member also survived The Bureau Raid.
- Drivers
Driver 1 pilots the second helicopter. Since they are carrying half the take, Lester suggests that they pick someone good. Driver 2 operates the freight train to carry the gold to the warehouse. Lester states that someone expensive is not necessary for this role.
- If Eddie Toh or Taliana Martinez is chosen as Driver 1, then they pilot their helicopter with profiency; however, they can crash and lose half the take if Trevor does not keep his helicopter steady. If either is chosen as Driver 2, there is no consequences.
- If Karim Denz is chosen as Driver 1, then he will crash his helicopter in the windmill farm, losing half of the take. However, if Karim has experience from at least one heist, then he will fly his helicopter with no problem unless Trevor fails to keep his helicopter steady. If chosen as Driver 2, there is no consequences.
