Original PS3 and "Slim" model.

The PLAYSTATION 3, PlayStation 3 or PS3, is the successor to the PlayStation 2, released on November 11, 2006 in Japan, and November 17, 2006 in North America. The PS3 is superseded by the PlayStation 4.

It features a hard drive (20GB, 40GB, 60GB, 80GB 120GB, 160GB, 250GB, 320GB or 500GB depending on the model), much improved CPU, easy hard drive expansion, high definition graphics, advanced online gaming capabilities, blu-ray media, wireless "SIXAXIS" or "DUALSHOCK 3" controllers, interaction with a PlayStation Portable (PSP) system through Wi-Fi and much more. It is also the only seventh-generation console to offer region-free games. The PlayStation 3 is backwards compatible with the original PlayStation, and early models were also backwards compatible with the PlayStation 2; however, later revisions of the PS3 hardware removed compatibility with the PS2. The console underwent two major redesigns: the "Slim" model in 2009 and "Super Slim" in 2012. The "Super Slim" model replaces the slot-loading optical drive with a top-loading drive and introduced an entry level model with 12GB of onboard flash memory instead of a hard drive.
