GTA Vice City — GTA Vice City Stories
In GTA IV, the Schafter is similar in design to a 1998-2006 Mercedes S-Class, but was modified to appear with a smaller body and less flamboyant fascias. In The Ballad of Gay Tony a newer, redesigned Schafter also appears. It remains a premium, full-size luxury sedan like the S-Class, but borrows its grille and headlights from a 2007-Present Mercedes CL-class, and the majority of its other styling cues from the 2009-Present Mercedes-Benz E-class. The GTA V rendition appears similar to The Ballad of Gay Tony.
Designed as a 1950s/1960s sedan, the Glendale appears to be the result of joining two halves of two different real-life cars; the front resembles a 1955 Buick Special while the back and sides (including the roof) resemble a 1961 Dodge Polara. While commonly featuring a two tone paint scheme (the roof being white), a Glendale in GTA San Andreas has a color variation that is totally red though. The roof color can also be modified in GTA San Andreas via TransFender.

Added in the "I'm Not a Hipster" Update, the Glendale has been completely redesigned. No longer resembling a 1960's American Sedan, it's now based on a 1968-1976 Mercedes Benz W114. It is manufactured by Benefactor.

Performance
Performance
In GTA IV, the Schafter, powered by a 6.5L supercharged V-12 coupled to a 5 speed gearbox in RWD configuration, is quite a heavy vehicle. Acceleration is below average, compared to other vehicles in its class, such as the Oracle and Presidente. Top speed is average, and enjoyable: 150 km/h (93 mph). Handling is above average—although a slight hint of oversteer is detectable, the Schafter's firm suspension makes it a joy in low-speed cornering. The suspension is a perfect balance of firm and soft, keeping the Schafter planted on the road in turns, while not jarring over bumps. Braking is fair, and ABS is available, though not standard. Crash deformation and engine build quality are superb; the car can sustain multiple impacts (including gunfire) before breaking down or catching fire.
In terms of performance, the car is only average, with an average top speed, mediocre acceleration, moderate endurance and average cornering. The vehicle's power-to-weight ratio may be a contributing factor to its below-average acceleration, as the car is heavy but posses a weak engine, and as a result, is also a poor hill climber.

The performance of TBOGT's second Schafter is significantly superior over that of the Schafter, featuring a well performing powertrain that provides significantly good acceleration and the same top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph), and its body, while heavier, is light enough to allow improved braking and cornering.
Prominent uses
The Glendale is a common gang car, predominantly in GTA San Andreas (the Varrios Los Aztecas); where it is common to see this car and its occupants taking part in a drive-by shooting. In addition, Big Smoke drives a Glendale with a blue body and a white roof, which plays a small role in several missions (mostly as transportation from his home to the mission location).

Variants
Variants
A tuned version of the Schafter, based on the Mercedes-Benz S65 "AMG" models is commonly found in Hove Beach, Broker, being driven by the Russian Mafia. It comes in silver or black, and has black rims, sport body kit, and no front emblem. However, the Russian Schafter can be resprayed to any colour. The black rims can also be recoloured back to the standard silver.
"Beater" Glendale
The "Ghost" Glendale (internally named the "<code>GLENSHIT</code>") is a GTA San Andreas variation of the Glendale which features damaged body parts and a different wheel design. Similar to the beater Sadler, the internal workings of the car are actually normal, but features body damage that cannot be repaired at a spray shop beyond the state when it spawned; other aspects of the car, including the engine, tires, windscreen and headlights, can be repaired otherwise. The <code>GLENSHIT</code> also features an early wheel design present on other similar vehicles during cutscenes.

<code>GLENSHIT</code> Glendales commonly spawn in isolated parts of San Andreas, especially between the two horseshoe shaped rocks in Back o' Beyond, presumably as a last-measure mode of transportation if the player loses a vehicle in the middle of the wilderness.

The "<code>GLENSHIT</code>" is central to the "ghost car" myth.

Similarly, the Ballad of Gay Tony's Schafter is also available in a modified form, featuring a different grille design, a low-riding body kit, a pair of single exhaust pipes (as opposed to two for each pair on a regular variant), and the possibility of appearing with one of two body color styles, including a single all-round body color, and a two-tone scheme with the darker color painted over the trunk lid, roof and a portion of the hood lid.
Bloodring Banger
The Bloodring Banger featured in GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas adapts the Glendale into a demolition derby car outfitted with various modifications for such competitions. While the Glendale is one of two models the Bloodring Banger is based on in GTA Vice City (alongside the Oceanic), only the Glendale-based Bloodring Banger remains in GTA San Andreas.

The Ballad of Gay Tony's iteration of the regular Schafter also serves as the basis for a limousine dubbed the "Stretch E".
Customization in GTA San Andreas
The Glendale in GTA San Andreas can be modified at a TransFender, but is only offered a bare minimum of modification options:

* In the opening scene of Grand Theft Auto IV, some Triad gangsters are seen loading the heroin into a black Schafter. The same car is seen being lowered onto the dock while Niko Bellic is waiting for Roman. *The Glendale plays the following radio stations by default when entered:
* In the final mission of GTA IV, (Deal), A Revenger's Tragedy, a rare Russian Mob Schafter can be found at the abandoned Alderney Casino. It is the Russian Mob variant, with black rims, but has a dark red paintjob. No matter how many times the player will drive the Schafter into a Pay 'n' Spray, the car will remain the same color.
** Radio Los Santos in the standard Glendale in GTA San Andreas.
* There is a particularly rare color variant of the Schafter with a silver body and black rims; Schafters of this coloration are only seen while the player is already driving a Schafter.
** Playback FM in the beater Glendale in GTA San Andreas.
* The two default radio stations in the Schafter are Jazz Nation Radio 108.5 and Fusion FM in Grand Theft Auto IV and K109 The Studio and IF99 - International Funk in The Ballad of Gay Tony.
* Big Smoke's Glendale's number plate reads "A2TMFK" which could translate into either; "A Two Timing Mother Fucker" or "A Two Tonne Mother Fucker".
* If the "GPS Speech" Option in the Audio Menu is set to "Selected Cars", the original Schafter has it whereas the redesigned rendition does not.
* In GTA San Andreas, the beater Glendale emits a different horn sound compared to the regular Glendale's.
* The name Schafter is probably a reference to the word "Shafter".
* In perfect condition this car can be sold in the S&M Auto Sales for $2,500
* In TBOGT for Xbox/PS3, the redesigned model almost never spawns at all, compared to the Sports variant, and the older model spawning commonly.

The Glendale is a four-door sedan featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Grand Theft Auto V.

Design

GTA Vice City — GTA Vice City Stories

Designed as a 1950s/1960s sedan, the Glendale appears to be the result of joining two halves of two different real-life cars; the front resembles a 1955 Buick Special while the back and sides (including the roof) resemble a 1961 Dodge Polara. While commonly featuring a two tone paint scheme (the roof being white), a Glendale in GTA San Andreas has a color variation that is totally red though. The roof color can also be modified in GTA San Andreas via TransFender.

Along with the Broadway, Hustler, Tornado, and the Voodoo, the Glendale in GTA San Andreas does not appear to have fuel caps but will explode if shot on the back license plate, perhaps indicating that the car's fuel cap is behind the license plate like some cars in real-life.

Added in the "I'm Not a Hipster" Update, the Glendale has been completely redesigned. No longer resembling a 1960's American Sedan, it's now based on a 1968-1976 Mercedes Benz W114. It is manufactured by Benefactor.

Performance

In terms of performance, the car is only average, with an average top speed, mediocre acceleration, moderate endurance and average cornering. The vehicle's power-to-weight ratio may be a contributing factor to its below-average acceleration, as the car is heavy but posses a weak engine, and as a result, is also a poor hill climber.

Variants

"Beater" Glendale

The beater variant of the Glendale in GTA San Andreas, with damaged body parts and a different wheel design.

The "Ghost" Glendale (internally named the "GLENSHIT") is a GTA San Andreas variation of the Glendale which features damaged body parts and a different wheel design. Similar to the beater Sadler, the internal workings of the car are actually normal, but features body damage that cannot be repaired at a spray shop beyond the state when it spawned; other aspects of the car, including the engine, tires, windscreen and headlights, can be repaired otherwise. The GLENSHIT also features an early wheel design present on other similar vehicles during cutscenes.

The "GLENSHIT" is central to the "ghost car" myth.

The Glendale in GTA San Andreas can be modified at a TransFender, but is only offered a bare minimum of modification options:
