Snail Trail is a mission and the only one in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, given to protagonist Carl "CJ" Johnson by hot-headed C.R.A.S.H. officer Edward "Eddie" Pulaski from his garage in the Doherty district of San Fierro, San Andreas.

Mission

Carl goes inside the garage, and gets welcomed by Jethro, who says that some cops are looking for Carl in the office. Carl realizes it is corrupt C.R.A.S.H. officer Frank Tenpenny and partner-in-crime Pulaski. He then gets welcomed by them, as they ask how things are going, and how his brother is doing. Later on, they order Carl to kill a young journalist, who is apparently onto the C.R.A.S.H. officers. Pulaski also tells Carl to kill the reporter who is supposedly going to meet the young journalist at the end of Yacht Harbor in Santa Maria Beach, Los Santos.

Carl heads for it and obtains a sniper rifle hidden by Tenpenny at the construction site beside the garage. After doing so, he heads to Cranberry Station, just across the street from the garage, where the reporter is waiting for a train to board. A little later, the journalist boards the train, and Carl pursues it. The train stops at Market Station in Market, and the reporter disembarks the train. He then hails and boards a taxi and heads for the end of Yacht Harbor in Santa Maria Beach. Carl discreetly follows him. Once the reporter arrives at his destination, he meets the journalist, and starts talking. However, from a distance, Carl assassinates both the journalist and reporter using the sniper rifle.

Script

(Carl enters the garage wherein mechanic Jethro is working alone on a car. He slides out from beneath the car.)

Jethro: Hey, CJ, wassup?

CJ: Hey wassup, Jethro?

Jethro: Some cops are lookin' for you in the office, man.

(Carl looks inside the office.)

CJ: (to himself) Tenpenny. (to Jethro) Alright, man, I got it.

(Carl goes inside the office as Jethro tends to the car.)

CJ: Nice to see y'all kicking back.

Pulaski: I wonder how your brother's sleeping, curled up next to his shower daddy while you live comfortably on the outside?

CJ: Man, what you want all this time?

Tenpenny: Well, what we want is to get on with our jobs in peace, without some damn bleeding heart liberal poking his nose into affairs he won't even understand.

CJ: The press onto y'all?

Pulaski: What the hell would you know about it, boy?

Tenpenny: Woah, easy there, Eddie, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Some young journalist out there is trying to get a name for himself.

Pulaski: He doesn't know how the streets work - that he's supposed to report what he's supposed to report.

Tenpenny: Yeah, anyway, we need you to shut him up for us.

Pulaski: And that stoolie - shut him up too!

Tenpenny: Yeah, there's some reporter who's digging up dirt on Pulaski, we don't know who's talking, but we know the reporter's meeting him today.

Pulaski: Take care of him.

Tenpenny: (as they leave) Oh - this a nice place... Carl.

Reward

There is no reward, but the mission Ice Cold Killa is unlocked.

Trivia

  • If the player has a sniper rifle in the inventory before the mission is started, it will be removed during the course of the cutscene, and the player is forced to pick up the one at the construction site.
  • A Sanchez spawns in this mission, beside the northern wall of Cranberry Station.
    • However, a much easier way to follow the reporter is to board the train on foot. The player must remember to get out of sight shortly after reaching Market Station to not get caught, however.
  • This is the only mission that would require Carl to travel to Los Santos before his officiated return to the city for comeback purposes. Apart from this, only the third trucking mission would probably require the player to enter the city before the actual return.
