The Vice Cheetah, more popularly known as the VCPD Cheetah, is an undercover police version of the Cheetah used by the Vice City Police Department (VCPD) in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.

Overview

The Police Cheetah is driven by two undercover agents equipped with Uzi submachine guns who chase you upon attaining a 3 star wanted level. It is exactly the same as a regular Cheetah, albeit with the addition of a flashing light and siren. Incidentally, this means the Police Cheetah is one of the few respray-able police vehicles, making it a great choice for the Vigilante side mission. Outdriving the Cheetah is nearly impossible, and once you get stopped, undercover police men in polos hop out with sub-machine guns.

Vigilante side-mission

In the Vigilante side mission, the player is required to chase down and kill the indicated targets (other criminals) within a time limit. At the start of the mission, a criminal spawns in a random vehicle (clearly marked and shown on the radar) and attempts to evade the player. If the vehicle catches fire or is held in place for more than a couple seconds, the occupant/s will bail out and run or attempt to acquire new transport. (Watch out, they may even steal your car!) As the player completes each level, the target/s come armed with better weapons and, as of GTA: Vice City, become more numerous until eventually, multiple vehicles appear with each new level. The mission is failed if the player remains outside of a Law Enforcement vehicle for more than 60 seconds in a row, the player dies, or is busted. Vigilante mode does not grant immunity from the Police, who will often pursue the player for murder, firing weapons, hitting police cars etc. Each time a Vigilante mission is started, the player must begin at Level 1, and cannot continue a previously failed or cancelled mission.

Trivia

  • The two undercover agents that pursue you in Vice City and Vice City Stories parody Crockett and Tubbs from the 80's drama television show Miami Vice, which Vice City itself also takes a lot of inspiration from.
  • If you look inside the VCPD Cheetah, you can see a red dashlight. When you look in a regular Cheetah, the light is still there, but is red. This means the stock Cheetah was likely built off the VCPD Cheetah by Rockstar.
