The assault rifle is a category of weapons available in the Grand Theft Auto games. These weapons are more powerful and accurate than the pistol or the sub machine gun and are powerful against medium to long-range targets. In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the M16 is called Assault Rifle in-game, while Grand Theft Auto IV, names the AK-47 as such.
