Forums GTA Liberty City, It's Over

This forum topic is about GTA IV and appears in the GTA IV Portal.

I know that it's very late for this, but anyway... For anyone who doesn't know, In the manual for GTA Episodes from Liberty City is this ad, the same ad appears in-game, on a billboard near Theatre Seagull. Liberty City, It's over is obviously the name of a fake movie opening in Theatre Seagull In March Everywhere (according to the bottom of the ad). Where it says Next Stop, there is a (drawn) rip in the page where it supposedly says the name of a city, and under the ripped out part you can see what's on the (fake) next page (you can't actually turn over and see that page). What's on the next page is supposedly a clue to what the ripped out city is.

This may be a (real world) advertisement for anything from Rockstar. There is alot of speculation that it's about an upcoming Rockstar Games release Red Dead Redemption. The reason for this is because of the game's planned march release, which matches the Opens March Everywhere thing. I have no doubt that that's what it is, but maybe that's what they want us to think?

If it does have something to do with the next Grand Theft Auto game, I doubt it's a release date, but rather an announcement or something. There is also speculation that as it doesn't specifically say March 2010, it could be a future March, but I also doubt that they would know a release date if it was that far off.

After reading a few forums, I've read all sorts of ideas. Knowing that the image on the next page looks like a mountain, alot of people have said that it may be San Andreas, others have said that the mountain matches the setting of Red Dead Redemption (let's just hope it's not that simple). I've also seen someone say green and gold are Australian colours, suggesting that it's set in Australia. However, the source that I find the most interesting is this, flashing between the ad, and another image which perfectly matches the section of the next page from the ad. The underlying image is apparently found in GTA Vice City. suggesting that Vice City is the setting of the next game. Of course there is the possibility that what's on the next page has absolutely noting to do with the ad, but that just doesn't sound right.

I just have a few questions.

  1. Can anyone please confirm that the underlying image on that site IS from Vice City and not completely fake?
  2. I assume that the ad appears in-game on a billboard next to Theatre Seagull ONLY in EFLC and NOT in the main game? Just out of interest, has anyone checked what's in it's place in the main game? Hmm... I wonder if they changed anything else in the city for the DLC?
  3. What's everyone else's thoughts? More DLC (though that would oppose the Liberty City, It's Over thing), a new GTA game, another Rockstar title (such as Red Dead Redemption), PS3/PC DLC (though that wouldn't make sense as to why the ad is in a manual for an Xbox 360 game), or anything else? Or is it simply in-world advertising and have no relevance to the real world, or anything else? Thanks! Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 11:23, December 31, 2009 (UTC)

To answer your question. There is evidence suggesting the setting for GTA5. At the ending of Lost and Damned or Ballad of Gay Tony (not entirely sure) shows footage of Patrick McReary getting out of a taxi at Francis International Airport with a suitcase then boarding a flight to San Andreas. The clip ends with the plane flying out west into the sunset.

That suggests that not only San Andreas as the setting but Patrick McReary as the popssible protagonist?

That bit of landscape shown on that poster could be anything.

I can definitely tell you that the Mollis ad is not from GTA Vice City. I have modded GTA Vice City's textures extensively and the game never had that ad. I haven't checked VCS but I doubt it's in that game because the ad is larger than the largest texture used in any of the III-series games. A major gaming website claimed it was from Vice City with absolutely nothing to back it up and that misinformation has spread ever since. Mollis is a valid company in GTA IV and they do sell pills but I don't have an in-depth knowledge on the company. In my opinion, there is no subtle clue. It's obvious that Rockstar wanted everyone to know that Liberty City is over and they will move on to another city because it is the only thing that page says. I don't like how people look way too deep into simple things like these as if every game company out there hides clues everywhere. Rockstar had never hidden subtle clues before so why start now? It's like the time before SA was released people looked at the numbers on the VCN Maverick to tell them when was SA's release date. Stuff like that makes people look crazy and obsessive.--Spaceeinstein 09:20, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

im pretty sure rockstar leave clues, i remember reading a forum somewhere about the gta 3 airport sign saying vice city here we come or something like that. lozzy94

@ spaceeinstein - Rockstar definitely DO leave clues. how do you explain the Vice City maps in one of the bins in GTA III? if they aren't clues as to the next location of the game, then I don't know what is... --GTAddict 11:43, January 9, 2010 (UTC)

I said subtle clues. Of course Rockstar leaves clues but it's obvious. And there are no Vice City maps in the bins in GTA III, that's an easter egg in San Andreas. Don't get those mixed up. In GTA III, the clues were from Ray and a billboard in a tunnel. In Vice City, the clue was from BJ Smith. In San Andreas, there were no clues leading to the Stories games. In GTA IV, the clues were in the LCPD database and the Trinity achievement. All those are in-your-face kind of clues, nothing subtle.--Spaceeinstein 21:22, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
