Episodes, also known as Episodic Content or Downloadable Content are downloads for Grand Theft Auto IV that add extra missions, areas, weapons, characters and more onto the standard game and a new storyline that interweaves with the main GTA IV storyline. Currently, both episodes are available for the Xbox 360 version of the game, through Xbox Live. Each episode requires the original GTA IV disk in order to be played. The game retails for £34.99 in the UK and $39.99 in the US.
List of Episodic Content
- Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and Damned, featuring criminal biker Johnny Klebitz and The Lost Brotherhood biker gang. - Released February 17th 2009.
- Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony, featuring Dominican criminal Luis Fernando Lopez and his boss Anthony "Gay Tony" Prince. - Released October 29th 2009.
Episodes From Liberty City
Both The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony were also released on a single disc - Episodes From Liberty City. Unlike the individual episodes, this doesn't require the original GTA IV game. This was released on the same day as The Ballad of Gay Tony on 29th October 2009. The disc includes three exclusive radio stations to compensate the music not carried over from GTA IV. The DLCs do not have exclusive music but music from GTA IV are carried over. If a player does not have GTA IV installed on their console, some phone conversation dialog in Episodes From Liberty City will be missing.
If you were to download any episode from the marketplace and save a game using TLAD or BoGT using GTA IV, if you were to later use Episodes from Liberty City on your Xbox 360, the saved games will still be available, however, the GTA IV saved games will not be.
PC & PS3 Release
On 29th January 2010, Rockstar officially announced that both expansion episodes would finally be released on the PC and PlayStation 3 on March 30th. Like the previous release on Xbox 360, each episode will be made individually available on the Playstation Store and Games for Windows - LIVE as well as together on a disc.
