Heists
Petty crimes, hustling and stealing cars can only get you so far in Los Santos. To score big, Michael, Franklin and Trevor will work together to pull off grand heists - big, multi-part missions that require careful preparation, recruiting, and precise (and often explosive) execution. Cash is king in GTAV, and while there will be plenty of ways to acquire and spend it - heists are the way to earn the big bucks.

A Heist is a form of robbery involving intense planning and are usually performed against institutions such as banks and museums. Heists have appeared from Grand Theft Auto 1 but only began featuring more prominently from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City with Grand Theft Auto V featuring six heists. Grand Theft Auto Online is also scheduled to involve heist missions. The planning of heists, with the players decisions having an impact on the heists outcome, is first introduced in GTA V with the player choosing accomplices from three categories: drivers, hackers and gunmen. The player must also perform other missions to obtain the necessary equipment.

- Crazy Jimmy holds up a bank on the orders from Bubby and is helped in the getaway by the protagonist.
- Chu Ying holds up a bank in Sunview on orders from Uncle Fu and is helped in the getaway by the protagonist.
- An unnamed man robs a bank in Vice City without the permission of Samuel Deever and is later taken back to Banana Grove, presumably to meet Deever, by the protagonist.

- Claude Speed and Hiroshi rob a bank on orders from Johnny Zoo of the Yakuza during the mission Bank Robbery!.

- Claude, Catalina, Miguel and an unnamed Colombian Cartel associate rob the Liberty City Bank during the introductory cutscenes.
- Three Leone Family mobsters perform a heist at the Bank of Liberty branch in Chinatown with Claude helping their escape during the mission The Getaway.

- Tommy Vercetti, Phil Cassidy, Cam Jones and Hilary King perform a heist at the El Banco Corrupto Grande bank in Little Havana during The Job.

- Carl Johnson and Catalina rob the Palomino Creek Bank in Palomino Creek, Red County during Small Town Bank.
- Carl Johnson, Wu Zi Mu, Zero, Guppy and two San Fierro Triads gang members perform a heist at the mafia run Caligula's Palace casino in Las Venturas during Breaking the Bank at Caligula's.

- Toni Cipriani steals some diamonds in a heist in Rockford Hills during The Passion of the Heist.

- Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips and two accomplices, with help from Lester Crest, of the players choice break into the FIB Building to retrieve incriminating data against Steve Haines during The Bureau Raid.

Depending on your heist specialists experience, they can sometimes end up dying or left behind.
- Karl Abolaji
- The Bureau Raid (Subtle): Gets caught in the blast when the door opens and dies in the blast.
- Karim Denz
- The Big Score
- Subtle: If his driving experience is low and if he is chosen to ride the fourth Gauntlet, he crashes his car, and gets pulled out and arrested by the police.
- Obvious: If his driving experience is low and if he is chosen to ride in the helicopter carrying the gold, he crashes it into a windmill and it explodes, killing him.
- Daryl Johns
- The Paleto Score: Gets hit by a police car then pinned to a wall causing him to suffocate and die.
- The Bureau Raid (Subtle): Gets caught in the blast when the door opens.
- Taliana Martinez
- The Big Score (Obvious): If Trevor doesn't keep the helicopter steady so Lester can destroy the helicopters shooting and knocking into Taliana, she ends up losing altitude and crashes her helicopter.
- Norm Richards
- The Jewel Store Job: Falls off his bike no matter which way you take to steal the jewelry, if not dead, possibly got arrested.
- The Paleto Score: Gets hit by a police car then pinned to a wall causing him to suffocate and die.
- The Bureau Raid (Subtle): Gets caught in the blast when the door opens and dies in the blast.
- Eddie Toh
- The Big Score (Obvious): If Trevor doesn't keep the helicopter steady so Lester can destroy the helicopters shooting and knocking into Eddie, he ends up losing altitude and crashes his helicopter.
