Johnny Zoo is a character in the 2D Universe who appears as a main character in Grand Theft Auto 2.

Character history

Johnny Zoo was born on November 17, 1969 in Tokyo, Japan. Prior to moving to the United States of America, which was presumably around 1995, he had earned an extensive criminal record, which the Anywhere City Police Department are unable to obtain from Japanese authorities. The ACPD record of Yonsi Zoo San suggests that he may be Johnny's father while Danny Zoo, another Yakuza gangster, shares the same surname. He, at an unknown time, began dating Hana Funabashi. He moved to the United States before 1995 when he was arrested on suspicion of multiple murders in a noodle bar, in 1996 for possession of illegal firearms (for which he was sentenced to six months in jail) and in 1997 for the Hello Sushi Bar massacre (but was bailed for $2 million). By 1998, the ACPD believed that he had connections to a huge cocaine and amphetamine smuggling, and an arms theft and dealing operations.

By the events of GTA 2, he had become the leader of the Anywhere City branch of the Yakuza and had began a car collection. He hired Claude Speed to help the Yakuza in their feud with The Zaibatsu Corporation, despite their narcotics keeping Yonsi Zoo San alive, and with their increasing problems with the Loonies who refused to pay their debts. He first sends Speed to destroy the Loonies "Happy" gas tanks and then to rescue two high ranking Yakuza gangsters from the Zaibatsu. The ACPD later impound his car, which Speed retrieves, although this angers the Military who send soldiers to destroy his car collection. Speeds saves the collection but then begins working for the Loonies and The Zaibatsu Corporation, helping to weaken the Yakuza. An angered Zoo, along with Loonies leader Elmo and Downtown District Zaibatsu leader Trey Welsh, unsuccessfully attempts to kill Speed who manages to kill all three gang leaders.

Trivia

Johnny Zoo's nickname is "Johnny Ice", which may be a reference to his part in the multiple murders that took place in a noodle bar in 1995 or the Hello Sushi Bar massacre in 1997.
Johnny Zoo has a tattoo of a polar bear on his back.

The Military are very angry that Zoo has recovered his car, so they send the army to destroy his car collection. but with the help of Claude, Zoo sucessfully fends them off. Eventually, Claude under the orders of the Loonies and the Zaibatsu corportaion, Helps destroy the Yakuza.
