The LHD-069 in Easter Basin Naval Station

LHD-069 is a Military aircraft carrier featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It is the first large military ship shown in GTA games, being modeled from the real US Navy Wasp class amphibious assault ship (which also use the classification 'LHD-' before the number representing which individual vessel it is). The ship is based in the Easter Basin Naval Station, San Fierro. The only time player will be able to visit the ship fully is during the mission Vertical Bird given by Mike Toreno, this also being the only time when military personnel will be present in the ship. Normally the ship is inaccessible through the rear cargo door, only being used as an entrance during the aforementioned mission. If the player attempts to board the ship by land, they would have to pass through the Easter Basin Naval Station, causing an automatic 5-star wanted level. Attempting to enter the ship via aerial means, will make SAM sites shoot at the player (only until "Vertical Bird"), and if they get close enough will, again, receive a 5-star wanted level.

The well deck of LHD-069

The ship consists of a flight deck and two internal decks. The Hydra will occasionally spawn on flight deck, but only after the player has completed the mission. The internal decks resemble warehouses, with crates and explosive military armaments scattered and stacked around the area that will explode when shooting them, as well as Forklifts. There are large load/unload bays in the upper deck and a wet dock in lower deck, with a Vortex hovercraft in it, which can be driven out up the stairs. There are Sprunk and snacks vending machines inside, which can be used to restore health lost in the battle with police.

Weapons

  • Tear Gas - Near a small box in the lower internal deck.

Trivia

The name 'LHD-069' is yet another reference to the number 69 in the series.
