Liberty State (Also referred to as Liberty City State, Liberty or State of Liberty) is a fictional American state (or city-state, according to some speculation) in the Grand Theft Auto series that is a parody of the real world American city/state of New York . Liberty City is believed to be the capital city of Liberty City State, or simply a city-state (like real-life Washington DC and the Vatican).
Known Cities and districts in Liberty State
In GTA IV, Alderney is adjacent to Liberty State, but still counts as part of Liberty City in GTA IV. Carcer City is stated to be nearby to Liberty City in the GTA III era, and is frequently mentioned throughout the rest of the series. However, it is not known whether it is in Liberty State or merely nearby.
