Sprunk Factory Ghost

It is said that there's a ghost in the abandoned Sprunk Factory in Alderney. A voice can be heard telling the player to leave. Many other screams and whispers can be heard. Captions have also been reported saying "Pleeeeeease Leeeeeeave!" and "You are unable to interact with a pedestrian on street level with a wanted level." The voice requesting the player to leave is in fact the bouncer at the nearby Honkers Strip Club. Huge explosions have been reported and also sightings of entities.

Unidentified Flying Objects

Many players have reported spottings of UFOSs (unidentified flying objects) during gameplay. In actuality, most of these "UFOs" are the lights of aircraft that are flying at an above-normal altitude. Some people have reported seeing space craft others have reported seeing lights that jump around and flash all over the sky.

Bloody Bedroom

This is not exactly a myth. However, in an apartment in Liberty City, there is an open door. The bedroom has a massive amount of blood strewn about, making it more likely a piece of miscellaneous interior detail. Also, on the mattress on the floor in the main room and in one of the side rooms is a picture of a policeman (identity unknown) with a pile and three lines of cocaine running across it. This could mean that there was either a police officer with a cocaine addiction living there, or a cop killer with the same addiction. If it was the prior, the police officer likely either committed or was killed. If it was the latter, he may have kidnapped the police officer (depicted in the picture) and brought him there, only to promptly kill him; The killer likely would have then fled from the obviously undiscovered crime scene.

It is located on the apartment in North Holland where Jimmy Kand lives.

It should be noted that the same bloody bed prop is in the room where Niko was sent to kill Teddy Benavidez, on orders from Ray Boccino.

Ratman

The Ratman is believed to be some kind of creature that can be seen in the subways of Liberty City. There are several variations to the fabled "Ratman". Some say he, or it, has sharp claws and teeth, and frightening red eyes, and an incredible running speed, as well as the ability to kill the player instantly. Others say the Ratman is merely a hobo with a unique set of dialogue. There is no proof regarding either. In online mode your player model can be changed to a "Zombie" that resembles a ratman. As of 2010, the Ratman myth remains unconfirmed; he is said to live underneath the subway in Chinatown, the same exit you use to come out of in Three Leaf Clover.

Ship Wrecks With Ghosts

There are plenty of ship wrecks surrounding Liberty City and one is believed to hold ghosts.

Growling Noises

These are rare, but they can be heard mostly during nighttime when Niko is by himself (i.e. no nearby pedestrians). It's a low growl that persists for a good amount of time, and may scare players if caught off guard. It is not known what causes these noises but it could be a glitch. It almost sounds as if it is the growl of a mountain lion.

video Can be heard around 1:18.

Deep echoed growls are known to occur in Alderney Casino and the Sprunk Factory, It is unknown what they are caused by but they might just exist for atmospheric effect.

Other growling can be explained by nearby Flying Rats or thunder.

The Blue Hell

Also while not exactly a myth and more of a glitch there is a secret room in the enterable hospitals. When you walk in, make a right, and then another right. There's a hospital bed right in front of a window. If you throw a grenade under it, it will be launched away and you can run jump through the window. You can then walk around through the walls. If you walk all the way back you walk into empty blue hell, you will then be transported back to the Hospital.

Lola

See article: Lola Del Rio. Is the prostitute seen on the concept art of the cover of Grand Theft Auto IV is often believed to be actually found in the game. She is a prostitute, who is suggested to be seen in Star Junction, Algonquin, but is never seen there. Many videos on YouTube, have reported they have seen her in Industrial, Bohan, near the docks. Legend has it that if you have sex with her in a car. It'll go in to cutscene where you die. She will attack you, just by bumping into her. She has as much health as 3 police officers put together and when hit by Lola, the player will lose twice as much more health then when hit by a knife. She runs about half the speed than a Sanchez, many believe that she carries weapons (i.e. knife or gun), but remember this what occures only if she is found, which is very unlikely and better said rare to identify if a prostitute is Lola or not, only of what is above happens.

Whale

The whale is believed to be a sea mammal that can mostly be seen in the water in Middle Park (most reports claimed to have been at night). Many deny this myth by simple stating that the whale is nothing more than an Annihilator helicopter with the blades broken off, crashed into the water. Alternatively, some claim it is an Annihilator just flying overhead, with its reflection giving off the appearance of a whale.

Changing faces of The Statue of Happiness

Some players have reported that at different points during the game, the Statue of Happiness's face will change from the normal "happy" face, to a angry, somewhat frightened face. Many players have said the face will change during a darker or more violent time during gameplay. Others have said if Niko has a high wanted level, or has killed many people and caused a high amount of property damage, the change might occur. Some theories state that you have to shoot the Statue's face, body or heart to see it, so far, none of these theroies have been proven to work.

Ghawar explosion in Out of Commission

The supposed explosion of Bulgarin's plane.

Some fans speculate that during the end cutscene of Out of Commission when Jimmy Pegorino is killed, in the background you will be able to see an explosion, supposedly that of Ray Bulgarin's plane exploding from the final scene of The Ballad Of Gay Tony.

In updated version of GTA IV (patch 1.06 for PS3), the fireball is much bigger, there is more fire and it appears two times.

This is further supported by one of the Russian mobsters in "Departure Time" saying that Dimitri Rascalov recently died. If the explosion rumor is true, and Dimitri died before the last mission, this suggests that Niko chose revenge in the finale.
