The Vapid Stanier is a 4-door sedan in Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto V. In Grand Theft Auto IV it was sported solely as a fleet vehicle, being used in police and taxi applications. In Grand Theft Auto V, it returned using the original model as a civilian vehicle and a face lifted model for fleet services.

Design

GTA IV

The Stanier is based primarily on the 1992-97 Ford Crown Victoria with some influences from the 1998-2011 model. The Crown Victoria was a popular vehicle for police and taxi applications due to its body-on-frame construction, rear wheel drive layout, and V8 powertrain.

Unlike the Declasse Merit or the Bravado Buffalo, there is no civilian counterpart of this sedan in GTA IV; this may have been done as Ford ended civilian retail of the Crown Victoria following the 2007 model year.

Regardless of its application, the fleet version of the Stanier features a front pushbar, CB radio equipment, and black wheels with chrome center caps. Law enforcement models additionally have a police computer, roof-mounted lightbars, and a spotlight mounted on the driver's side. The taxi variants have a rear pushbar, fare meter, taxi lights and markers, and a hood-mounted taxi medallion; some taxis may also have roof-mounted advertising.

GTA V

The Stanier returns in GTA V with a civilian and fleet model. The civilian model retains the GTA IV figure, being based off the 1992-97 Ford Crown Victoria. The fleet models received a facelift, and appear to be based off of the 1998-2011 Ford Crown Victoria with the grille and headlights bearing similarities to the 1991-96 Chevrolet Caprice/Impala SS.

The fleet applications determine what is applied to the vehicle. The taxis come equipped with a standard yellow over blue paint job, roof mounted taxi sign, fare meter, and CB radio. The police models are either painted in black and white for LSPD use, an unmarked variant, or white for Blaine County Sheriffs. These all come equipped with standard LED or rotating light bars (excluding the unmarked cruiser), front and rear windshield mounted LED emergency lighting (the Sheriff's Cruiser does not come with front windshield lighting), a pushbar with LED strobes, flashing taillights, sirens, spotlights (non functional), CB radio, and a cage.

Performance

GTA IV

The Stanier is powered by a 4.6L V8, coupled to a 5 speed gearbox in a RWD layout. Acceleration is good, and the top speed is above average and its braking and suspension are very good. Crash deformation is good, and the vehicle can sustain multiple frontal impacts before failing.

GTA V

The Stanier's performance is a near cross over from GTA IV, however the suspension has been re-worked to be more supportive and allows the Stanier to remain more stable under hard cornering and quick maneuvering in traffic.

Trivia

The civilian Stanier in GTA V has the LCPD computer screen overlay still on the dashboard near the center console. This may imply that the vehicle was the intended fleet model for GTA V (as seen in the first trailer), but removed from that position and left in the game as only a civilian vehicle.
The Stanier may exist in three generations in GTA V, the first generation model based on the 1992-1997 Ford Crown Victoria, the second generation model based on the 1998-2011 Ford Crown Victoria, and with reasonable speculation since the model was originally based as a fleet only vehicle, the newest Police Cruiser (third generation) model featured in GTA V that is based off the 2009-2013 Ford Taurus.
