The Grotti Stinger is a two-door sports car which originally debuted in the original Grand Theft Auto, and has recurred in the form of different designs.
Description
Design
GTA 1 — GTA 2
In both GTA 1 and GTA 2, the Stinger is based on some form of a classic Chevrolet Corvette; the GTA 1 rendition is based on a 1968—1972 Chevrolet Corvette, while the GTA 2 rendition is based on a 1963 Corvette Split-Window. In both instances, the name is a reference to the Corvette Sting Ray; STINGRAY is also the internal name of the GTA 2 rendition.
When crushed in GTA 2, the car awards the player an ElectroFingers pickup.

3D Universe
In GTA III and GTA Liberty City Stories, the Stinger bears a passing resemblance to several different cars, including the Porsche Boxster, Toyota MR2 Spyder, TVR Chimaera, and Lexus SC; the Stinger may also appear with or without a roof (a softtop in GTA III and a hardtop in GTA Liberty City Stories).
In GTA Vice City and GTA Vice City Stories, the Stinger resembles a 1968—1973 Ferrari Daytona Spyder, an apparent homage to Sonny Crockett's Ferrari Daytona Spyder replica, yet another one of GTA Vice City's references to Miami Vice.
A working name given to the Stinger in GTA III is "Shark" (not to be confused with the Sharks gang), as evidenced in the "official" website for Capital Autos [1].

GTA V
The Stinger, now manufactured by Grotti, has been redesigned. The front of the car appears to be sourced from the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale, while the car also bears similarities to the Ferrari Dino 206 and 246. The Stinger can come with or without a roof, much like its GTA III/Liberty City Stories renditions.

Performance
- GTA 1 — GTA 2
While fashioned as a sports car, the Stinger in GTA 1 has relatively average performance, with average acceleration and top speed (but a slightly fast reverse speed), adequately responsive brakes, and average grip and cornering; the car does, however, have a decent export value of $8,000 if delivered in mint condition at a dock. The Stinger in GTA 2, however, performs substantially better, with good acceleration and a high top speed; however, the car still has average braking and steering, which are not able to handle high speeds, resulting in the Stinger having to perform wider turns when moving fast.
- 3D Universe
The 3D Universe rendition of the Stinger is more powerful and faster than most cars, but is one of the lowest-performing sports cars due to having low tendency to drift. Its four-wheel-drive configuration gives better grip and mitigates spinouts. Unusually, the GTA Vice City rendition of the Stinger uses front-wheel-drive, something that has been rare in high-performance vehicles.
- GTA V
The Stinger is classified as a "Sports Classics" car. As such, its acceleration is acceptable for its class: 6 seconds to 60 mph. Unlike its previous renditions, the Stinger is now rear-wheel-drive much like its base counterparts. Also, it has a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h), acceptable for its class. Its grip is good, but not the best.
Variants
- Yakuza Stinger
The Yakuza variant of the GTA III and GTA Liberty City Stories renditions, the Yakuza Stinger, shares the same four-wheel-drive configuration as a regular Stinger, but handles worse and has slower acceleration because it is much heavier than the normal Stinger. The Yakuza Stinger is customized in the import tuner style, both of which might imply that the GTA III/Liberty City Stories Stinger is made in Japan.

Trivia
- During development of GTA Liberty City Stories, there was a yellow Stinger supposedly reserved for use by the Sicilian Mafia. The Sicilian Mafia also drive Stingers that are in a unique white color not seen on regular Stingers.
- The GTA Vice City rendition of the Stinger made an appearance in Manhunt 2.
- Despite being a commonly found car in GTA Vice City and GTA Vice City Stories, only 122 genuine Ferrari Daytona Spiders were ever produced in real-life,[1] and Ferrari Daytona Spider replicas are often built from Daytona Coupe (which are ten times as common) or Chevrolet Corvette chassis'. The Ferrari Daytona featured in Miami Vice, for example, is a Corvette-based replica.[2]
- The Stinger in GTA V is one of the most expensive vehicles in the game, valued at $1 million, alongside the Adder.

- In single player, the Stinger is exclusive to the Industrial District of Anywhere City, appearing in traffic as well as the following parked locations:
- A parking lot north of the church in Tedium.
- Northwest side of a parking lot in Gonad two blocks east of the Sennora police station.
- East side of houses and an open garden area in Tabernacle, west from conveyor belts next to the Tabernacle car shop.
- A parking lot in Sennora several blocks north of the Zaibatsu crusher.
- In multiplayer, the car can be found near the starting point of Bonus Levels A, B, and C.
- GTA III
- Driven around Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale.
- Parked in a backlot car park on the southwestern most block in Bedford Point, Staunton Island.
- Parked by a mansion garage in Cedar Grove, Shoreside Vale.
- GTA Vice City
- The house behind a gate just north of the Vercetti Estate, Starfish Island (it's the building just east of the house with the Rockstar logo pool).
- GTA Liberty City Stories
- Driven around Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale.

- Spawns at a parking space in Downtown near the police station.
- Parked in the parking lot behind the fire station, Downtown.
