Use

Should this template be used on character pages or on certain character pages? I've added it to my sandbox, which is a partial re-write of the Salvatore Leone article, not yet finished. So what do you think of the template? A-Dust 18:21, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Ihe point of an infobox is to condense a lot of the most commonly-wanted information into an easy-to-read format. So for a game or important character or mission it outlines the vital statistics so people can quickly look at the page, get the information, and go elsewhere. If there are only a couple of sentences on the page, then an infobox is actually going to take up more space, and is totally pointless (as it only takes a few seconds to read it). Only use infoboxes where they actually help. Gboyers talk 20:10, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Too big?

As I mentioned on Talk:Niko Bellic/infobox, I think this template contains far too much information for an infobox. It's meant to be a quick reference for vital information, rather than a complete table of all data about the subject. I propose that home, affiliations and vehicles are removed from this. If they are important, they should be put in the article. There could be a section for vital statistics, perhaps with a table (maybe a new template for that). I just don't think it belongs in the "important vital basic information" box, and makes an infobox too large. Gboyers talk 19:11, April 10, 2010 (UTC)

Occupation

What does everyone think about adding an Occupation section to the infobox? There is no real space for listing a characters occupation at the moment and the businesses section should surely be for actual businesses not an occupation. A-Dust 21:55, 16 February 2014 (GMT)

Good idea - Done! gboyers talk 21:53, 23 February 2014 (GMT)

Template glitched?

I'm seeing "[[Image::File:(image name).jpg| ]]" under the photo and "Gender::Male" given as the gender on pages with this infobox. Anyone else seeing this? --Bluesboyjr (talk|edits) 15:05, 28 April 2014 (BST)

Yeah I am, it's pretty annoying but I just thought it may have been my own computer. I guess everyone is seeing it than? Grand Theft AJ (talk|edits) 19:50, 1 May 2014 (BST)
This is visible to everyone and it is an issue with the semantics we introduced on the wiki last year, which should run in the background without people noticing, rather than a glitch. The idea is that we could create large articles (such as Characters in GTA V/All (which due to the problem isn't working), which would pull the information from the infobox on each article to create the main article. So, for example, we could use the semantics to create a page showing lots of information, which would be pulled automatically from the infobox used on the articles (in this case, characters). Another example is on country articles where the semantics are used to show the characters from each country pulling the nationality from the infobox. Gboyers is looking into this and hopefully it will be resolved soon. A-Dust 00:50, 2 May 2014 (BST)
