== Merge Category ==
''Pages displaying this template will be placed into [[:Category:Merge]] for convenience.'' Why is this so convenient? Non-staff members who can't move pages would definitely look through the merge category, only to click a link to a page that doesn't need to be merged, but moved, which they can't do. Staff members can also have this problem. I go through the category, and (until I click the links) have no way to distinguish between the links that lead to pages that require only a simple move, and pages that need merging, which could take much longer, time which I may not have. How are merging and moving even related (besides that merging sometimes requires a move to a better title)? Reason

Does anyone like the idea of adding a reason to the template. Usually moves are for obvious reasons and don't require a discussion, on such an occasion, the template is so that staff can easily find the page. However I just moved a page, and looking at the old title and the suggested title, there wasn't much difference so it wasn't obvious at first. What I'm suggesting is for example: It has been suggested to move this page to Template:Move (capitalisation) - discuss. The brackets would be automatic, so to achieve this, the user would type: {{move|Template:Move|capitalisation|Template talk:Move}}. Thoughts? Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 09:30, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

No Talk Page Given

While I'm waiting for someone to reply to that, I will bring this up. This applies to both Template:Move and Template:Merge.

If a talk page name isn't given then a link to TALKPAGENAME is created (which is obviously wrong), so I tried to use {{#if:{{{2|}}}|}} to stop it from showing a discuss link if a talk page is not given. Then I tested it, as can be seen on this revision of my userpage, by having a move with talk page, move without, merge with, merge without; and it didn't even show discuss links for the ones that did have them, so I reverted my edits to both templates. What does everyone else think of this idea anyway? Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 09:22, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Merge Category

Pages displaying this template will be placed into Category:Merge for convenience. Why is this so convenient? Non-staff members who can't move pages would definitely look through the merge category, only to click a link to a page that doesn't need to be merged, but moved, which they can't do. Staff members can also have this problem. I go through the category, and (until I click the links) have no way to distinguish between the links that lead to pages that require only a simple move, and pages that need merging, which could take much longer, time which I may not have. How are merging and moving even related (besides that merging sometimes requires a move to a better title)? Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 11:33, May 3, 2010 (UTC)
