The United Arab Emirates, also known as the Emirates or UAE, is a country in the Arabian peninsula with borders to Oman and Saudi Arabia, and maritime borders with Iran, Qatar and Pakistan. The capital of the United Arab Emirates is Abu Dhabi. The United Arab Emirates gained its independence on December 1, 1971 from the United Kingdom.
