Los Santos is a metropolis located in San Andreas. Located in the southern region, Los Santos is a major economic hub for the state of San Andreas and the United States. The city was originally founded as a pueblo in 1781 by Spanish governer Phillip del Castillo. The pueblo belonged to the Mexican government until 1848 when the Americans won the Mexican American War.

Today, the city is a major economic hub. It is the city that has headquarters for many major companies such as Lombank, Canyon Entertainment, Wilson-Farris, CityBank, Weazel, San Andreas Gas Company, and CNT. The city is one of the most diverse in the world and sits at the heart of one the most culturally and ethnically diverse regions of the world. The city is well known for its entertainment and fashion industry.

History

Los Santos was originally founded as a Spanish mission town by Phillip del Castillo. The town was known as a pueblo, and was only home to a few hundred people. The city continued to be small after the Mexican-American War. During the Mexican American War, on August-September of 1846, the pueblo experienced a siege. The Mexicans would win the siege, driving the Americans out of Los Santos. However, the United States would go on to win the war, and therefore capturing Los Santos.

After the Mexican-American war, the city would experience a surge in immigration and growth. There were 2 factors. First, many were looking for gold all around the State of San Andreas due to gold being founded north of Los Santos. Second, there were many treasures buried away by many wealthy Mexican families who would not go on to reclaim it. The city was a major recruitment ground in the Civil War. Many wealthy Mexicans who owned slaves teamed up with Southern sympathizers and threatened to take over the town. An uprising never started, though there were uprisings in other parts of the Southwestern United States. After the Civil War, America experienced an immigration boom. Most of these immigrants came from many countries, such as Germany, Scotland, and Ireland. By the turn of the century, according to the 1900 census, the city housed over 100,000 people.

After the major 1920s economic boom, which brought a large boom in suburban housing, the area experienced a complete economic crash. Los Santos was in the midst of the Great Depression. There were many lines for work, many small-scale riots occurred, and there were homeless people everywhere with infamous slums being built by the clock every corner. Only to make matters worse was the sudden arrival of Okies, who were mainly impoverished and did menial work. When World War II began, these problems suddenly stopped because work was everywhere, which was mainly military-related (bomber factories, etc). After World War II, the city experienced a major economic boom. This was also the start of the golden age in Vinewood.

After the economic boom of the 1940s-1960s, the city's sudden boom started slowing down. During the 1970s, housing construction mainly ended. Once completely white areas turned into infamous black ghettos such as Ganton and Idlewood. The most infamous street gangs included the Families and the Ballas. There were also the Vagos, Los Aztecas, the Rifa, and many other street gangs. Immigration from Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras was rising, and like the Okies, they came at a bad time. Crime soared throughout the 1980s, and crack cocaine hit every part of the city. Violence peaked in the early 1990s, and soon, the infamous 1992 Los Santos Riots began. This was started by police corruption, police brutality, police racism, and tensions between ethnic groups, the worst being the African American and Korean communities. Every part of the city was plunged, looted, and burned down. The cost was at one billion dollars, thousands were injured, and 50 lives were lost.

Police reform within the LSPD began. Instead of paramilitary tactics, the department used more community-oriented tactics. Satisfaction has risen in the LSPD since. Throughout the Clinton economic boom, the city experienced a robust economy once again, aided by new technology such as cell phones and most notably the Internet. Infamous ghettos such as Ganton and Jefferson experienced a major drop in crime, partly due to a peace treaty between the Families and the Ballas, but also the LSPD clean-up. The late 2000s economic recession, though did not hit the city as severely as previous ones, still had a major impact on Los Santos. Many homes were foreclosed, and crime steadily rose. Many people, for example, Mexican-Americans, left for their home countries. Many have not returned. After the recession, the city is trying to re cooperate in a post-recession economy.

Geography

Topograhpy

The Los Santos region is rather awkwardly shaped. The city and its surrounding suburbs is on one, huge valley. Downtown Los Santos is in the center, with the Vinewood and Wilson areas being directly west. The Santa Maria and Vespucci areas are also more west from Downtown. North of the San Franco Valley you would find many steep hills and mountains. There is a large natural preserve called the Santos National Forest. East of the city are the snow-topped Del Perro Mountains. Desert climate is directly north of Los Santos, with the Navajo Desert, and Blaine County being the closest desert to Los Santos. The Alamo Sea is also nearby.

Geology

The Los Santos region is very prone to earthquakes. Earthquakes generally happen every year, and are rarely severe. However, there have been major, destructive earthquakes. The most severe earthquake that hit Los Santos was in 1933 when it hit the South Beach suburb. 120 people were killed, and an unknown number of people were injured. 2 more severe earthquakes have hit Los Santos. The San Franco Earthquake of 1971, which killed 65, and the Eastbridge Earthquake of 1994, which killed 57 and injured over 9,000. Many earthquakes have also happened near (but not directly in) Los Santos.

Los Santos is also prone to tsunamis. Minor waves have hit LS ports in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. The most recent tsunami was in 2011, which came due to the Japan tsunami hours earlier.

Climate

Los Santos experiences a generally warm and sunny climate throughout most of the year. During spring and summer, the weather is generally warm. The skies are very blue, and clouds aren't very common during the summer. During March and April, Los Santos tends to be rainy. Most showers leave by May. During the winter time, Los Santos is generally colder. The infamous Santa Rosa winds pick up around October, which causes many wildfires. Los Santos during winter generally tends to be cloudy.

Los Santos is infamous for its pollution. Pollution is a big problem in the city and region and has been since the 1920s. The pollution is so bad Downtown is not very well visible. Things have improved for the better. Since the early 90s, the city has been promoting campaigns to clear the air, including building a new metro rail/subway system.

Economy

Los Santos has a very robust economy. The City of Los Santos' many industries include international shipping, entertainment, aerospace, petroleum, fashion, tourism, and manufacturing. Los Santos is a very vital port, and is one of the busiest around the Pacific Rim and the world. Los Santos is considered an Alpha World City. Many companies call Los Santos home, such as Lombank, Canyon Entertainment, Weazel, Whiz, Wigwam, and Sumo of America.
