That's 99% right. The only (important) thing I would argue is the one point that Wikia and GTW really disagree on. The community didn't "split" or "forK" - it moved. We changed host from Wikia to our own server, moved over, and closed the old site. Wikia reopened it, removed all references to the move, banned all the staff and pretended nothing had happened. Eventually Wikia promoted some random users as admins and things have continued. I won't go on, but the drama on that site is not worth the effort, in my opinion. I still think the community should unite into a single, big, awesome wiki - a split was not what we wanted. Wikia's decision to re-open the copy of our site after we moved was purely based on profit, not quality of content or any interest of the community. I can't forgive them for that. Hi, I've removed your automatic block, which was a false-positive as discussed. I hope you enjoy the wiki! gboyers talk 11:57, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you've seen our Oasis page which is an archive of the actual discussion that led to GTW moving hosts. When we moved, Wikia kept the old wiki open, eventually changed the name and removed all evidence of Grand Theft Wiki ever existing, promoted new staff and banned the staff who moved here with us. It was a messy situation, but I and all the staff here are still very pleased we moved. We have retained control of our site, been able to use designs and extensions to improve our editing and content, and not suffered from endless in-your-face advertising (try visiting GTAW when you're logged out). I'm pleased to hear you say you find this wiki is better in many regards, but as with everyone else I'll let you make your own decision about where to edit! gboyers talk 01:45, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
I did read it when I found the page over on GTA Wikia. After you guys discarded Wikia because of the Oasis skin and its mass advertising, the wiki was a barren wasted page until some users stepped in and rebuilt it from the top. One user name WikisEditor was copying content here on Grand Theft Wiki and had his b'crat rights removed and has been blocked from Wikia entirely. McJeff and Tom were rebuilding GTA Wikia.
I'm going to be completely honest with you, back in late 2010, my Internet was turned back on after a year of inactivity. By the time, I was interested by GTA more because prior before my internet was out, I always looked up cheats. After I typed in GTA Cheats, GTA Wiki(a) popped up and I saw the wiki, the page was white and the activity there was low (if I can remember, an edit was made 5 hours ago). I went back to the search and I found Grand Theft Wiki. After I went on it, the pages were white and I noticed a lot of info regarding to the GTA games even info pieces I never heard of. I didn't know how to navigate myself around it but, I just clicked on any article that was there on the bottom and read interesting stuff.
As you said, I have my decisions to edit here or over there. I can choose both. The reason for GTA Wikia is that I'm patroller over there and I have to do my "patrolling", edits info and concocting ideas. A reason to edit here is because the accurate info here and the nice staff. As I said, gnomish edits here and there, but if I get the time and feeling, I'll edit often here.

I can't forgive them for that. gboyers talk 22:24, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
