'''Derrick McReary''' (Irish: Darragh Mac Ruairi) is a character in the [[HD Universe]] appearing in [[Grand Theft Auto IV]] and [[The Ballad of Gay Tony]]. He is a 52-year old member of [[McReary|McReary Family]] and the oldest sibling of the five.
== Description ==
Derrick was born to [[Maureen McReary]] and [[Mr. McReary]] in [[Dukes]]. Born in [[1956]], he is the oldest one of their children, followed by [[Francis McReary|Francis]], [[Gerald McReary|Gerry]], [[Patrick McReary|Packie]] and [[Kate McReary|Kate]]. He was arrested at three different protests in the early [[1970]]s, all before he was 18. In [[1978]], he and [[Bucky Sligo]] were both arrested for armed robbery. He was arrested in [[1980]] for cocaine possession and according to the LCPD, his heroin addiction was picked up in prison. In [[1985]], the last of his American criminal record was him getting caught carrying explosives.

Derrick has recently returned from Ireland where he assisted the PIRA in fighting the British. Two of Derrick's old friends, [[Bucky Sligo]] and [[Aiden O'Malley]], believed that Derrick snitched on them to the authorities and constantly threatened him and his family as result, despite Derrick's claims of innocence. The accusations from his former friends caused him tremendous grief and fueled his drug addictions, although Packie will eventually reveal that he did snitch on them. He seems to be the most compassionate of all the McReary children, as is shown with the way he tries to calm down the bank staff and customers during the heist. When his brother, [[Francis McReary|Francis]], discovers that Derrick is back in town, he worries that he will reveal Francis' corruption to the press for money. He [[Blood Brothers|talks with Derrick in a park]] as part of an attempt to use Niko to kill him, thinking that he must go outside the law to take down his brother. Niko has a choice of who to kill. The player does not receive anything from Derrick for killing Francis. Derrick's picture is hanging on the wall inside the [[Lucky Winkles]] bar, which is one of the fronts of [[McReary Mob]].
Derrick left for Ireland in the late 1980s when he was depressed, according to Packie in [[Three Leaf Clover]]. Francis allegedly threw him a farewell dinner in Chinatown. Derrick, Bucky and [[Aiden O'Malley]] (all Irish men from Liberty City) all fought in the [[:wp:Provisional IRA|Provisional IRA]] against the British during [[wp:The Troubles|The Troubles]], once fighting in heavily armed combat in Belfast, Northern Ireland (so says Derrick during Three Leaf Clover). Their combat ended by [[1995]], when the trio was arrested in the US for a string of extremely violent robberies (they robbed the mafia, according to Francis) and Derrick snitched on them. Aiden was sentenced to twenty years in prison, Bucky won his trial, and Derrick stayed in Ireland for years after, until returning to Dukes in [[2008]].

In [[Grand Theft Auto V]], set in 2013, Packie mentions that Derrick is dead if he is brought along on a heist. How or when Derrick died is not elaborated on, though it can be assumed that he was either shot by Niko, or he at one point died of an overdose due to his drug-addiction, in the five years between the two games.
