Characters in GTA IV: Difference between revisions

A number of characters appear in the video game [[Grand Theft Auto IV]], set in 2008. Prominent characters are listed here in rough order of appearance and prominence. WARNING! MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.

Niko Bellic is the anti-hero [[protagonist]] and playable character of [[Grand Theft Auto IV|GTA IV]]. 30 years old, he was born in Serbia and fought in the civil war there. Niko is guilty of committing previous criminal acts in his life and wishes to escape his past and his home, where he is currently having issues. He is persuaded by his cousin Roman to move to Liberty City where he lives the "American Dream" and Niko falls for the deception. In the beginning Roman is the only person he knows in the entire city and must protect him from the many individuals he is in debt with. Meanwhile, Niko has his own agenda, one that is far more sinister than making it big. He is out for revenge, something that he only later reveals to Roman.

[[Roman]] is [[#Niko Bellic|Niko Bellic's]] cousin who resides in Liberty City. Roman claimed in many letters and e-Mails home to be living the "American Dream", sleeping with many women, living in a luxury condo and owning many fancy cars but in reality he owns a gritty taxi firm in the outskirts of Broker. He successfully manages to persuade his cousin Niko to move to the city using his deception, or so he thinks, as Niko has very different reasons to come to LC. Their relationship seems strained and they are always bickering, but it becomes very clear that Roman is all too happy that Niko is at his side. Roman is also heavily in debt with various figures around the city.

Little Jacob is a Jamaican arms/drug dealer, a man who [[#Niko Bellic|Niko]] uses to get his ammunitions from. He is a good friend of [[#Roman|Roman]]. Niko has the option of doing missions for Little Jacob, in turn gaining both money and Little Jacob's friendship. Little Jacob later saves Niko from being killed by Dimitri and his mobsters in a harbor warehouse and also takes part in the last key-missions of the game.

Francis McReary is a corrupt cop who is aware of felonies made by [[#Niko Bellic|Niko]]. His missions normally involve a contract killing on a person who knows or has incriminating evidence against him. He is the brother of Patrick, the two other McReary brothers,Derrick and Jerry and of course Kate McReary.

 

 

Just returning from Ireland, the oldest of the McReary brothers seems to have a background with the IRA, as he possesses a good knowledge of weapons and explosives. Sadly, Derrick is a strong drug-abuser to a point where Packie later says that Derrick is a living dead.

Related to [[#Francis McReary|Francis]], he is with the Irish mob. His friends call him Packie. He lives with his mother and sisterin Steinway. He works sometimes for [[#Elizabeta|Elizabeta]], but generally has his own agenda after his brother's return to Liberty City.

Elizabeta is a drug dealer who resides in Bohan. She has many contacts with known characters such as Little Jacob and Manny Escuela. She is seen in promotional artwork for the game.

The [[South Bohan]] community leader. Elizabeta and he seem to not like each other, as seen in [[Grand Theft Auto IV#Trailer 3|Trailer 3]]. Manny often talks about how he's "cleaning up the streets" and spreading his message out to other communities. Throughout the game Manny is shooting a documentary about cleaning up the streets. He intends to title it "Gospel of the Streets" but, like most of the time when he gets a good idea, he has no paper or a pen. However his film is cut short after he is coldly murdered alongside his cameraman by Elizabetha after attacking her drugs business.

Deputy Mayor of [[Liberty City]].  As seen in the slogan to the right, he's depicted as the epitome of cornball conservativism, even though this is just a front for his completely different, secret lifestyle.

Russian loan-shark. Vlad was a Russian mobster who ran to the Hove Beach neighborhood in [[Broker]] with an iron fist. Nico later kills Vlad, upset that Vlad was attempting to begin a romantic relationship with Roman's girlfriend Mallorie. (Although it is clear that Niko also killed Vlad as a result of him always treating Niko with disrespect, and always referred to him by derogatory names such as jokel and serf.).  Vlad was employed by the much more powerful Mikhail Faustin.

Russian Syndicate Leader. You meet Mikhail after the mission "Uncle Vlad". Mikhail happens to be a heavy user of cocaine, and has a very short temper. He sends you on assassination mission that his "brother", Dimitri, warns against. Mikhail's wife tells Niko that he was not always like this, but that Liberty City has changed him. They have a daughter who is constantly in danger of falling in with the wrong crowd, namely one of the rivalling Biker Gangs.
