Hi there. I'm glad you're enjoying your time on Grand Theft Wiki - we have always approached the wiki from the point of view of a GTA gamer more than anything else, which is why we're a lot more community focused than the purely information-based Wikipedia. Our editors are gamers, rather than professional writers or English teachers. You are absolutely right by saying: "we all have the same idea of put the information on the page, then we can fix it up, something is better than nothing" - that is exactly how I feel about the wiki.

Adding someone as your "Friend" on the wiki simply lists you as their Friend - nothing else. Friends show up on someones social profile - which you can choose to use as your user page. It is mainly for your own benefit, so you know you have someone to talk to. I hope that makes it clearer - Gboyers talk 04:33, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

:Hi there!  I don't recall seeing any emails for friend requests...may have gotten filtered as spam, or maybe it's something I didn't check in my preferences!  Either way, I now always go to the Main Page when I first log in, mainly out of habit. :-P EganioTalk 07:52, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi.  No, you did not cross the line.  Concern over the possibly dubious activities of other editors is by no means a transgression.  If I were to offer you any advice, it would be to simply alert one of the administrators to the possible vandalism (in this case).  If someone truly is a vandal, then asking them to stop most likely will not do any good.  On the other hand, if they are not, they may take offense to the suggestion.  So it's really best just "passed along", as it were.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with expressing concern to the user in question, but you should also alert an administrator if doing so.  Thanks for keeping your eye on things, though.  It is greatly appreciated! :-) EganioTalk 00:04, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

I stress that you are now a leader of the community, and you should lead by example - you're still a normal editor of the wiki, but with a few extra tools to help people and fix problems, but only use your powers to intervene when necessary.

:Hehe, fair enough. Thats the reason I wanted you as admin, because you just want to help this wiki, and I reckon you can. Let me just say one thing - the last thing you should do is over-administrate, so don't (for example) delete a page that doesn't need deleting. You can impress me equally well by helping other users, going through Cleanup/Delete etc, updating important pages etc. Don't worry about trying too hard, just enjoy yourself. The infinite protection on Michelle (IV) is just no date set. That doesn't mean I want it to be protected forever. However, since GTA IV is still a new game, a lot of people still won't know that spoiler. And with the PC version coming out soon, a lot of new people will get it and won't want to know that spoiler. We could leave it protected for another few months, and then only staff are able to edit that page (anyone that wants to add anything should mention it on the talk page). However if you think we can trust our members enough, then feel free to unprotect it. Your choice :) Gboyers talk 13:41, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey. here you suggested making an empty header to give users the idea of filling in the section. Whilst that would probably work for some pages, I don't like the idea of having empty sections all over the site. That would make the entire wiki look incomplete. I appreciate the effort towards standardising all pages, but its a little bit more complicated than pasting in a template. Thanks - Gboyers talk 13:33, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

What was the reason for this block? Was it for Planes or the gripes? I don't think either of those are 'spamming' or require us to block that person from editing this wiki.  Or was it because he edited the header instead of the gripe pages? If so, you should talk to him rather than block him without explaining why. Or have I missed something? EDIT - I've read a bit more detail, and I see some silly gripes such as "What crawled up your ass and died?", and his comment that "it just sent me here". Also, I notice you spoke to him, but then proceeded to block him afterwards anyway? Could you explain this please, and explain why it required a block? Either way, you need to be much clearer what exactly you are blocking someone for. :After HuandLee edited the header page the first time, with the comment :it just sent me here", I spoke to the user about editing the header instead of fixing the link that was sending them to the wrong place. At this stage, I knew that there was no need for a block. It's AFTER I spoke to the user that they went back to the page and filled it with nonsense. That must have been on purpose that time as all the gripes and rebutes happened in one edit, and at the end the user said, "Remember, too much abuse and this page is gone". Then, the next edit removed the text from the page, which looked like an attempt to hide it. To back this up, the text never appeared on any other page, so it can't have been a legitimate gripe accidentally added to the wrong page. So my reason for the block is basically doing something after being told not to do it. I didn't speak with him and then "block him anyway", the block wasn't effective until after repeated spamming and which took place after being warned. Is this not a reason for a block? If not, sorry, it was my first block without consulting you. Okay I understand a bit better now. However, "spamming" is more about filling pages with nonsense, gibberish, links to websites etc - stuff that is of absolute zero value to the Wiki. Adding content in the wrong place is usually an accident - a misguided attempt at adding content. Doing it again after being told is unfortunate - but perhaps he didn't read your message, or didn't understand it - so I wouldn't punish at this stage, never mind block. At this point I would protect the page that was being defaced, and issue a stern final warning to that user, explaining exactly what was wrong, and exactly how to avoid doing it again. If it happened again, it would show a deliberate attempt to do the opposite of what you instructed, and that could be worth a small suspension.<br />The fake gripes, the taking-the-piss text in there, and the removal of content complicates things slightly. He had already said that the gripes would be added, since I explained that if the cheat codes page stayed empty, there would be no point in keeping it. Perhaps we need to be clearer about what we allow. I think at this point he was frustrated, and perhaps on the defensive (after a conflict with me), which probably explains the piss-take text and the fact that he did it on the wrong page. This still doesn't warrant banning him from the site. Removing the text might have been because he realised it was wrong? Surely thats a good thing...<br />I appreciate the effort, but I think you jumped to using the "block" option too early - remember it really is a last resort. Protecting the page for 3 days would have done the same thing, without causing the upset a full suspension has done. Protection is a protective measure, as opposed to a punishment. Blocks are also meant to be protective and defensive, but users can very easily interpret it as an attack and a punishment, so you really have to be sure, and communication has to be spot-on. No hard feelings from my end, and I hope things are clearer to you now. Let me know if you have any questions - Gboyers talk 04:47, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

:I was actually editing this page again when I got the email saying that you did. Ever since HuangLee got to the wiki, I have felt sympathy for him. I don't know why he had to wait a year to join (unless he was already IP blocked) but when he did join, he had me come to him twice correcting something he did, then he had what he thought was a great idea which he then misinterprated our posts, to think that we hated the idea. I saw on Talk:Mike Toreno that he thinks that no one takes him seriously. Then he got blocked, and he says he's never coming back. (this is where I was up to when I got your message) I was going to mention (in this edit) that he possibly did it out of frustration, and that yes, he may have done removed the text for a good reason. Thanks for the advice. Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 04:54, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Since you appear to agree, I have removed the block on this user, and replaced the sanction with a formal Final Warning. This is part of the continuous reviewing of admin actions, and the open discussion is vital to Grand Theft Wiki's values of transparency and honesty. You say you felt sorry for this user, so perhaps you should have shown more compassion and helpfulness than a by-the-book blocking. Feel free to use different tactics for different situations, you don't have to treat everyone identically. For example, in a situation where a user has had a couple of misunderstandings/accidents, and is growing increasingly frustrated, a block or punishment is likely to aggravate them and cause further trouble; so you should consider discussion and warnings rather than finite sanctions. But if it was a deliberate attempt to break the rules, then a block would be appropriate. I hope that makes sense. :Every time I'm editing you interrupt. Lucky I always have my email open so that I see the edit and don't overwrite it. I just realized that I did the last thing that I ever said I would do as admin. HuangLee says that GTW is an Island, that we make it look so great but three days later you realize that it's not. He then said that he's not coming back. I never got blocked from Wikipedia, but I did tell myself that I would never edit again (which several months later I haven't) for feeling unaccepted (like HuangLee now). I just went against what I say about GTW being much more friendly. But I've learnt for the future to have a much slower walk towards blockage. To make it worst, he had a conflict with every (active) admin (you about the cheat code gripes, A-Dust about Mike Toreno and me many but mainly this one). Oh, and I'm on my way over to your talk page on an unrelated topic. To make it worst, he had a conflict with every (active) admin (you about the cheat code gripes, A-Dust about Mike Toreno and me many but mainly this one). Oh, and I'm on my way over to your talk page on an unrelated topic.
