A subway system has been featured in two versions of Liberty City in the Grand Theft Auto III era and Grand Theft Auto IV.
GTA III era
The subway system in the Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories renditions of Liberty City consist of two lines: The Portland El based exclusively in Portland Island, and the Liberty City subway that traverses the whole of the city; however, the two lines do not have any interconnection, leaving the two lines wholly seperated from each other. The Portland El features three stations while the Liberty City subway has four.
GTA IV
The subway in Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto IV is operated by the Liberty Transport Authority (LTA).
The subway system is a heavy rail rapid transit system that serves a large portion of the city. With 26 stops and 8 routes, it is largest and most complex rapid transit system in the Grand Theft Auto World.
Lines
The subway system has four main lines, in pairs:
- The Algonquin Inner Line (Routes K & C) + Bohan Line (Routes E & B) (Journey time, encircling both lines is approximately 17 real time minutes/8.5 in game hours)
- The Algonquin Outer Line (Routes A & J) + Broker Line (Routes 8 & 3) (Journey time, encircling both lines is approximately 22 real time minutes/11 in game hours)
These four lines serve all corners and boroughs of Liberty City, but do not serve the state of Alderney. Strangely, regardless of the route, the train will always be the "K" train with a destination of "Sundance St. STH. Slopes".
