The Stinger in GTA III.

The Stinger is a fast convertible, but not quite as good as a Cheetah. It handles great, responds well, and sticks to the road. This vehicle first appeared in the original Grand Theft Auto, but has also been in Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. For some reason the vehicle was left out of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, leaving no explanations why Rockstar Games decided not to include the Stinger.

In GTA 1 it's based on the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette (the name is a reference to the Corvette Stingray). In GTA 2 it's based on the 1963 Corvette Split-Window. It can only be found in the Industrial District of Anywhere City, and gives the Electrofingers power-up when crushed.

In GTA III, the stinger appears in hard-top and convertible form. Its performance is better than most vehicles, however it is the least powerful of all the 2-door sports cars, with little tendency to drift. Its Yakuza varient, however handles better and is all-wheel-drive, as opposed to the stock cars, which are rear-drive. It resembles a Porsche Boxster or a Toyota MR2-Spyder. In GTA Vice City and GTA Vice City Stories, it resembles a Ferrari Daytona Spyder and the headlights look similar to the 1973 Corvette concept, the XP-897 GT.

Variation

In GTA: Liberty City Stories called the variation of the Stinger, called the Yakuza Stinger, is available. It has a gray (top) and red (below) stripes on the body decal. It is owned by the Yakuza gang. It is quite a good looker, though this variation of the Stinger is curiously slower and has a bad turning radius for a sports car.

Locations

Liberty City Stories

  • Though a Stinger is not found parked in LCS, it rarely spawns around Staunton Island (usually when driving a Yakuza Stinger).

Vice City Stories

  • Found in Downtown, near the VCPD Police Station.
  • Found at Prawn Island, inside the Interglobal Studios (usually a Deluxo spawns more than the stinger)
  • Found at Ocean Drive, along a row of parked cars in Ocean Beach.
  • Found at a mansion in Starfish Island.
  • Spawns often in VicePort, Ocean Beach, Prawn Island and Downtown.
