Thank you for your message. I'm unaware of the exact year GTA IV is set in, although I would not trust anything posted on Facebook, regardless of whether the word official appears or not. It could also be out of date. Plus, earlier on I was looking at the LCPD Police Database and when I clicked on Niko's profile, it read that he had been arrested in 2008 for something or other, suggesting the game is set in 2008. However, I can not find anything reliable either way. I'll bring this up at the articles talk page, so as others can have their say and see if we can discover the year the game is set in.
