'''Vertical Bird''' is a mission in [[Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas]], given by [[Mike Toreno]] to protagonist [[Carl Johnson]] from [[Madd Dogg's Crib]] at the [[Mulholland]] district of [[Los Santos]], [[State of San Andreas|San Andreas]].

CJ drops by Madd Dogg's Crib in Mulholland, his "new" home, and listens to [[Madd Dogg]] while he's rapping after having recovered from the [[Madd Dogg (mission)|suicide attempt]]. All of sudden all the audio is cut off and Mike Toreno's voice is heard who tells CJ to come out of the mansion. CJ gets out and finds Toreno, who has one more job needing to be done. Toreno says if CJ does this job, his brother [[Sean Johnson|Sweet]] will be released from prison. CJ agrees and hops on a speedboat docked on the water with a [[knife]] and a [[Silenced 9mm]] in it. He heads over to the [[Easter Basin Naval Station]] in [[San Fierro]] where Toreno instructs him to sneak inside without being seen and that he can't help anymore. CJ gets off the boat and swims into the base while sneaking up inside, he kills a soldier armed with a [[AR-15|M4]] however, the alarm goes off and that forces him to rush his way. CJ then kills all the soldiers on his way and disables the [[Surface-to-Air Missile|S.A.M.]] sites. He later on goes and steals a [[Hydra]] plane and escapes the base while avoiding the soldiers who guard the place. Toreno happily tells CJ via the earpiece, that he has to head over to [[Tierra Robada]] and destroy five spy ships with the Hydra's missiles, other planes start to follow CJ in the air but he succesfully manages to destroy them. CJ, with the help of the Hydra's missiles, destroys all the boats and then lands the plane inside a hangar at the [[Verdant Meadows|Verdant Meadows Aircraft Graveyard]].

*It may be noted that this is the only mission that takes place across each of the three major islands in the State of San Andreas. It starts at [[Madd Dogg's Mansion]] ([[Los Santos]]), CJ steals the [[Hydra]] from the [[Easter Basin Naval Station]] ([[San Fierro]]), and destroys spy ships in [[Tierra Robada]] ([[Las Venturas]]).

*If you destroy all the other planes on the ship, only one enemy jet will chase you, however if you dont destroy any, three will chase you, if you only destroy one, two will chase. Either way, you will get chased. The location this other jet is launched from is unknown, but is most likely [[Area 69]], as it is the only other area with a [[Hydra]] spawn.

*on the ship there are only army troops. there should be navy personnel as well considering it is a navy ship.

Upon completing this mission, the player is rewarded with $50,000 and an increase in [[respect]]. Also the [[Hydra]] is always available at the hangar in [[Verdant Meadows]]. Another thing to note is that the S.A.M. sites will not shoot you anymore whenever you are flying over or if you are near the Easter Basin Naval Station, but you will still get a 5-star wanted level.
