The Da Nang Thang is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, accessed independently by protagonist Carl "CJ" Johnson under the inspiration of blind Chinese-American San Fierro Triads leader Wu Zi "Woozie" Mu from his apartment in the Chinatown district of San Fierro, San Andreas.

Mission

Carl bumps into Woozie just as he was about to leave his apartment. Suddenly, Little Lion, a Triad gang member, calls Woozie and informs him of the Da Nang Boys having arrived on a freighter ship on the San Fierro Bay and having brought along some Vietnamese refugees and locked them in a container.

Carl rushes to the apartment's roof and meets Little Lion who is about to fly towards the ship with his Maverick. Carl enters the helicopter and the two fly over to the shipment in the middle of the sea. Carl, prepared for an attack, starts killing every Da Nang Boy he spots with a minigun and after a brief moment, one of the Da Nang Boys manages to shoot down the helicopter with a rocket launcher. Little Lion dies and Carl survives the attack, but losses all his weapons and is left with only a knife in his hands.

He climbs the ladders onto the ship and kills the first Da Nang Boy armed with a shotgun from behind and continues his way around until he finds the prisoners and frees them. One of the refugees tells him where The Snakehead, the Da Nang Boys' leader, is located. Carl makes his way to The Snakehead and is handed a katana. During the sword battle, Carl kills The Snakehead and along with the refugees escapes in a Dinghy.

Script

CJ: (as he climbs the stairs and approaches Woozie) Woozie, my man!

Woozie: (as he is just exiting and Carl catches him) CJ, you caught me on the way out.

CJ: Business?

Woozie: This is the big one, this is the one that is going to seal my place in the Red Gecko Tong. But something's come up, and I've got to things it out myself. (his cellphone rings) Excuse me. (picks up the phone) Little Lion, what's the news? Damn. Why today of all days? OK shit. Take Guppy and go check it out. (hangs up)

CJ: Trouble?

Woozie: The Da Nang Boys are arriving today on a container ship. Little Lion's gone check it out - I really have to go too. (proceeds to leave)

CJ: (interrupts Woozie) Hey man, look. Don't even trip. I'm gonna handle this one for you, alright?

Woozie: Thanks, my friend. Your help and friendship has been invaluable to me.

CJ: Thanks man. Where the other guys?

Woozie: Oh, they're getting a helicopter to do a couple of flybys of the ship. Look - if everything goes well, I'll call you in a week or so and invite you to my new spot.

(After Woozie leaves, Carl meets Little Lion on a roof and enters his helicopter.)

Little Lion: Hey CJ, what are you doing here?

CJ: Just bumped into Woozie on the way out. He filled me in. I thought I'd roll with you.

Little Lion: Well we ain't rolling, we're whirling! Strap in and strap up!

(The helicopter takes off and flies towards the freighter.)

CJ: Where we headed?

Little Lion: To the boat - it's moored out in the bay.

CJ: Oh yeah, I see it!

Little Lion: You better lock and load, they'll be on their guard!

CJ: Locked and loaded!

Little Lion: Holy fuck, they're gunning for us already!

CJ: I see 'em!

Little Lion: They're all over the containers!

CJ: I got 'em man, right in my sight.

Little Lion: Hit those Da Nang bastards!

(Little Lion spots a Da Nang Boy with a rocket launcher.)

Little Lion: RPG! RPG!

CJ: Where? Which side?

(The helicopter is hit by the rocket launcher and goes down.)

Little Lion: We're hit! We're going down! Brace for impact!

(Little Lion dies from impact, while Carl survives.)

CJ: Oh man, that hurt! Damn, lost everything but my blade.

(Carl manages to get up the freighter through a ladder.)

Da Nang Boy #1: Do you see any survivors?

Da Nang Boy #2: No. Nobody getting out of that alive.

(Carl approaches the freight containing the refugees.)

Refugee: Keep it down, you want do bring the Snakehead down here?

Da Nang Boy: Not long until were drinking cola in the free West, eh? (spots Carl) Hey, who the fuck are you?

(The refugees' guard throws a grenade at Carl.)

Refugee Guard: Stick this up your ass!

Refugee: (after the guard is killed) Hey you, help us! Hey, please, help us!

(Carl frees all the refugees.)

Refugee: Please, the Snakehead tricked us, we're prisoners. Please help us escape! The Snakehead is up on the bridge...

(Carl makes his way to the bridge, kills The Snakehead's guards and goes to The Snakehead's room; when he arrives, The Snakehead tosses Carl a sword.)

The Snakehead: Enough! We settle this here!

(Carl kills The Snakehead, then heads to the refugees and climbs into a dinghy.)

Refugee: Thank you for everything!

Reward

The rewards for this mission are $15,000 and an increase in respect. If the mission Toreno's Last Flight has been completed, the mission Yay Ka-Boom-Boom is unlocked.

Trivia

  • Regardless of whether or not you actually have a knife in your weapon inventory, it will always spawn for Carl after the crash.
  • After the crash, instead of swimming upto the freighter, which is not necessary, it is possible to acquire weaponry from Ammu-Nation and other spawn points. Since a wanted level is prohibited during the mission, this is the best suitable time, apart from Pier 69, to explore the areas of Bayside (if the Boat School has not been accessed), Tierra Robada, Bone County and Las Venturas, while also collecting miniguns from the spawn points in Las Venturas. Oysters in the Easter Basin Naval Station can also be collected without police attention.
  • The Snakehead can be killed with any weapon, not only the provided Katana.
  • After the mission, WCTR News host Lianne Forget reports that the FBI is investigating closely the links of a war between Chinese street locals and Vietnamese gangsters.
