Re: Hello

Glad to see you here too. Try this to fix your user page. If you go to Special:Toggleuserpage, that will change your user page into a wiki page that you can edit, instead of a (broken) automatic profile page. When we get it fixed, you can simply go to that link again to change it back if you want. Hope that helps - Gboyers 19:33, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Red County

The edits on the Red County page was largely about Flint County, such as The Truth's farm at Leafy Hollow. Some things, however, I will be re-adding into the article (such as K Rose being the default radio station and the Events in GTA San Andreas section), they were only removed in order to quickly remove any references to locations in Flint County. Brackets

We try not to use brackets unless absolutely necessary. They are not natural for people to use, and it makes articles hard to find and hard to link to. Instead, you can say Market, San Fierro and Market, Vice City etc - which is a much more natural way of doing it. If they are in the same city but in different games, you can say Market in GTA San Andreas. Does that make sense? See Grand Theft Wiki: Style Guide for more information. gboyers talk 19:27, 2 August 2011 (BST)

Quick comment

Hey, I just have a quick comment. Occasionally you've added sentences that don't really make sense, perhaps just trying to make it sound official or posh or something. Some examples being "if you are of any concern" or "contributions are determined through bytes" or "one particularly being", all of which are a little bit wrong. I'd rather use plain, simple English that makes sense, than try to be posh or official-sounding! Don't forget that not everyone here speaks English natively, so it helps them if we use simple English too. I hope that makes sense! gboyers talk 20:09, 14 August 2011 (BST)

Cool, not a problem. Some people hate being told things like that, but most people here want to help and want to improve, so I hope it helps! gboyers talk 20:25, 14 August 2011 (BST)

Oh it was nothing in particular. I just re-explained it in a simpler fashion - it's still basically the same stuff you said, just in a different order. If you want me to be specific (as constructive advice) - your opening sentence didn't explain what a signature was (for people that didn't know), you just said it was "a good habit". Just like a normal wiki content article, we always have to say WHAT something is before we start going into detail about it (like saying "XYZ is a mission in GTA IV" not just "In XYZ you have to..."). So whenever I explain something, I always go back to basics and work from there, slowly explaining more and more as the page goes along. Also, for the table (which was good), the actual code a signature produces wasn't needed, as it might confuse people into thinking that's what they have to type, which is why I removed that. Even if I reword your phrasing, what you add is still good and a very useful starting point for some great articles. I find it easier to reword something as opposed to writing it from scratch, which is why I tend to do that a lot. Don't be offended (: gboyers talk 21:38, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

WIki Activity

Hey Montario - are you still active here? Just wanted to check everything's okay!--MrLanceVanceDance (talk) 00:53, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Trusted Users & Patrolling

Hi Montario. We've made a few changes to Grand Theft Wiki, our staff structure and the way we monitor edits. As you're a Trusted User, we've given you the right to patrol other users' edits. This means you can check out the edits that haven't been checked yet, and either endorse them, fix them or revert them. As you're trusted, your edits are automatically marked as patrolled too! It would be a great help if you could patrol a few edits from Special:Patrol each time you visit GTW, and it would look good if you were nominated for promotion too! See Grand Theft Wiki:Patrolling for help and more info, and give it a go! Let me know if you have any questions - gboyers talk 00:39, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

This should all be explained at Grand Theft Wiki:Patrolling. RecentChanges will show all unpatrolled edits (by clicking 'Hide patrolled edits') with the red exclamation mark, and click 'diff' to see that change and have the [marked as patrolled] and the undo option. The 'full menu' at Special:Patrol is just a direct way of doing those ('endorse' is marking it as patrolled, 'revert' is the same as an undo, and skip just shows another diff). Let me know if you have any questions. gboyers talk 18:30, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Just a really quick point - when you're editing multiple sections of the same page, please could you try to edit the whole page in one go? As opposed to editing and saving every section individually and ending up editing the same page 11 times in one day, because this spams up both the history and recent edits. I'm not sure whether it's just you prefer to use the [edit] buttons next to each ==H2 Header==, and not using the main Edit tab at the top of the page, or whether you forget to Preview. It's no biggie, but it might seem like you were trying to artificially increase your edit count, so we do ask users to change their habits a bit. Thanks - gboyers talk 22:13, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm probably not the right person to ask that question, but I'll try. The main point of those new templates are to automatically add the new image subcategories. Where the images already have the new categories, I wouldn't say it's particularly important to necessarily change the template, but I expect most need to be recategorised, so just add the template to do that. gboyers talk 19:49, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Images Problem

Sometimes when you upload a new version of an image, it doesn't register right away. Put your mouse on the ▼ button next to "View history", and click "purge". Silver Infernus talk 00:52, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Downloading

I removed the term 'downloading Windows' on the PC and Mac pages because that implied that users should illegally download a copy of Windows. Whilst some people do that, it's not something we support here, and definitely not something we want to be encouraging. gboyers talk 07:11, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Re: Location

I think Template:Location is pretty good. I think it works best when used in conjunction with a map. My only real suggestion would be for the actual maps - a thin yellow line is not visible enough when used in a thumbnail. The area should be coloured in, like File:SanAndreas-GTASA-map-locations.jpg. Another point would be that there's no harm having multiple links to the same page. I know Wikipedia prefers only the first link to each page to work, but I think it makes much more sense to allow people to click on the word when they read it, than have to scroll up to find an earlier reference.

If you're struggling putting some points onto the template, then you have two options:

  • Allow multiple entries into each place, so you might have |south=Airport, Verdant Bluffs, The Strip
  • Modify the template to allow a colspan/rowspan that lets an area take up BOTH the south+southeast boxes

That second one is quite complicated (with loads of IFs) but I can help out. Lastly, you should write documentation for the template so that other people know how to use it. gboyers talk 07:59, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Re: Help Page

Since your question was about a particular page, I've moved it to Talk:Help so more people can answer it, and it's always there for future editors of that page to see. gboyers talk 07:24, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Re: Trusted User Status

You are right - all user permissions on the site had been accidentally lost. This sometimes happens when we upgrade or alter our software. I've restored most of the permissions manually - please let me know if you can see anyone you think I've forgotten! gboyers talk 18:37, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
