Proof reading

Hey, thanks for your edits. You are right, this wiki does need a lot of proof-reading. Anyone can edit here, and some things that were badly-written years ago still exist. This wiki is built entirely by its users, and relies entirely on them to improve it. So just keep fixing the problems you see, and let me know if you have any questions. Keep up the good work! Re: Red links

In reply to Red links... images

Those crazy links are called "interwiki" links, which link to the same page but on a different wiki. It's mostly used so that people can find the same page in a different language (such as on the Spanish GTA Wiki); so obviously on the Spanish wiki the title of that page will be in Spanish.

For example, if you look here, at the very very bottom, just under the categories, you can see a little "Languages:" section. If you edit the bottom of that page, you can see all the interwiki links added (such as [[es:Tommy Vercetti]]). Instead of showing up on the page as normal blue links, they are transformed into interwiki links in that list.

Now, the problem is that since we moved away from Wikia, I removed all the interwiki shortcuts that go to Wikia wikis. This means that any interwiki link is not recognised, and it is just treated as a normal link. I haven't yet decided what the best method of action is. At the moment, ignore them, don't bother removing them, we'll figure something out.

As for images, when we moved from Wikia, we couldn't copy every single image across. Most of them should work, but some of them won't. If you find an image that should be here, find it on Wikia, save the FULL version of it (not the thumbnail or preview version), and upload it here with its original name (make sure it doesnt start with a size like 800px-filename.jpg). Instructions are here and here. Gboyers 01:16, 30 April 2011 (BST)

Re: Wikia

In reply to About moving from wikia

We have no control over that wiki. Once we moved, Wikia decided to keep a copy and to ban GTW staff from it. There is nothing we can legitimately do with that site.

The main issue is that everyone is used to going to "gta.wikia.com" instead of "grandtheftwiki.com" - so most people, and most links, end up going to that site. Even though this one is a lot better, people just end up there. We need to do two things:

  1. Convince people who go to wikia to come here instead
  2. Get as many sites to link to GTW as possible

If you can help do those, that would be great (: If you want to do things to Wikia, such as add links to GTW, that's your choice; but Wikia will just ban anyone who does it.

One problem today is that our site was down for a few hours, which meant people couldn't edit. That was just a one-off mistake and won't happen again. Our activity is usually a bit more than this.

But finally, statistics are not my priority. I want an awesome site that everyone here loves to use and edit. The more people that can enjoy that, the better. It is sad and frustrating to see Wikia stealing all our hard work, though. Gboyers 23:26, 2 May 2011 (BST)

Re: New Pictures

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but I realized that the subtitles aren't the only things in Polish in those images. A lot of the instructions, etc are also in Polish, and they annoy me to the point where I just decided to change them as well. But I agree with you on the others, if there isn't any text I won't be doing anything about them. --Andreaz1 18:58, 20 July 2011 (BST)

What?

Tommy, what exactly is the point of this discussion on User:Tommie-Vercetti's page?

Hahaha.

This is the best you can come up with?

Seriously? Go on, try and troll and see how long it lasts. Haha. I'm saving this, just for hilarity's sake.

I went to the awful GTA wikia to try and bring more people over here. Of course, the place is full of idiots and I got banned instantly. However, almost immediately thereafter, I saw this little smart ass pop up "Tomie_Vercetti" and it was obviously a troll account by someone who loves the wikia here. Looks like they chickened out almost immediately since they haven't done anything, but I let them know, it was a stupid "ploy".--Tommy-Vercetti 17:54, 7 August 2011 (BST)

No problem, I really hate Wikia, not just the skin but the Staff and the false GTA Wikia.--Mizu (talk) 14:44, 29 August 2011 (BST)

I planning a trick on them, really don't like them.--Mizu (talk) 14:54, 29 August 2011 (BST)
How did you get banned? oh wait let me guess the "new" admins block you did they.--Mizu (talk) 15:03, 29 August 2011 (BST)
Which one?--Mizu (talk) 15:09, 29 August 2011 (BST)
I found a pic of the two new b'crats at that Wikia.--Mizu (talk) 15:20, 29 August 2011 (BST)
Well, one b'crat is basicly running things correctly, the other two are just making that site worsed and the admins act like they have no experience what's so ever.--Mizu (talk) 15:27, 29 August 2011 (BST)
Check this out.--Mizu (talk) 15:36, 29 August 2011 (BST)
I created a account and wrote her a "nice love message", some vandal came in and uploaded that pic, really don't like her.--Mizu (talk) 02:47, 30 August 2011 (BST)
Hey, are you globally blocked on Wikia or just blocked on the GTA Wikia?--Mizu (talk) 03:11, 30 August 2011 (BST)

Question

Hey dude, are you blocked on all of Wikia, or just blocked on the GTA Wikia?--4th hale (talk) 12:25, 7 September 2011 (BST)

Wiki Activity

Hey Tommy - are you still active here? Just wanted to check everything's okay!--MrLanceVanceDance (talk) 00:51, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the concern, but I've found that I'm really active on most wikipedias when they are relevant. Like, I was here all the time when I was going through Vice City, 3, and San Andreas, but since I'm done... I haven't checked back too often. Nor do I really care about GTA 5, so I still check back occasionally, but I don't have much more to add everyday. --Tommy-Vercetti (talk) 01:01, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

So Tommy, what wikis are you active on?--MrLanceVanceDance (talk) 01:06, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Block

The thing that makes this wiki different from Wikia, Wikipedia and all the others is that everything is up for discussion. I told you our current position/policy (which is at Grand Theft Wiki: Languages), and you have the right and the opportunity to question it, start a discussion, and make suggestions for changing it. Instead, you chose to make personal attacks, which of course have earned you a block. But because you have a good history of edits, I've made it only a 2-week block.

My problem was not using US English, nor even the occasional changing of spellings (I've never really stopped people from doing it), but I don't like the idea of people deliberately going around changing every single word just to be how they like it, as if the other English dialect isn't good enough. If it was a genuine mistake (thinking we used US English), fair enough. If you thought we should use US English exclusively, start a discussion. But your attitude of 'retard british spellings' did not sound like it was in the interests of this wiki, instead it was seeming like an attack on those who used British spellings.

You may personally not see the point of British spellings, but they are not 'idiotic' or 'retard'. They existed long before US English changed them, and they're used by a lot more people (worldwide) than the US versions. I don't have a problem with you preferring one set of spellings, I don't even have a problem with you using them on this wiki, but we do have a compromise in place, and I'd ask you to respect that.

I'm going to cut you some slack here. Come back in two weeks, and we can forget this whole thing. If you want to discuss which spellings we used, great, I'm completely in favour of that, and we'll all come to some agreement or compromise. But if you just want to argue, or ignore everyone on here who thinks slightly differently, then don't bother. Your choice. gboyers talk 21:58, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

All this fuss over a disagreement about spellings? Seems a little melodramatic. We've been completely reasonable, but if that's not good enough, you're free to leave. gboyers talk 00:28, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
