In most Grand Theft Auto games, pedestrians can speak in public. This can vary between general monologues, dialogue between pedestrians, comments to the protagonist, exclamations if the player bumps into them, or reactions to events around them. Specific types of pedestrian, particularly those in gangs, have different comments and accents to suit their background and role.
