Cities are distinct municipalities with populations often reaching the millions. The term is used inclusively in Grand Theft Auto games.
Fictional
Grand Theft Auto games are replete with fictional cities, many of which are based on real-life locations:
- Liberty City = New York City (Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Advance, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, and Grand Theft Auto IV)
- Vice City = a counterpart to Miami (Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories)
- Anywhere City = Unknown (Grand Theft Auto 2)
- Carcer City = Most likely Newark, New Jersey or Detroit. Said to be neighboring Liberty City (mentioned in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories; Manhunt takes place in Carcer City)
- San Andreas = San Francisco (Grand Theft Auto 1)
State of San Andreas
Because San Andreas is an entire state in GTA San Andreas, it is comprised of three major cities, and several small towns:
