The Party is the second mission in the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City video game, that provides an introduction to some of the various characters that feature in the game. The mission is the first which Tommy Vercetti takes from the lawyer Ken Rosenberg.

The mission can be accessed after completing the mission An Old Friend, and the start location is at Ken Rosenberg's office in the Washington Beach district of Vice City. The mission begins with a cut-scene, which involves Ken Rosenberg and Tommy Vercetti discussing what they are going to do, following a failed cocaine trade in Viceport, which resulted in three people dying. Ken Rosenberg is obviously shook up, refusing to leave his office for fear of retaliation from The Forellis. Sonny Forelli in particular. That and the fact that his appartment is on the other island which is blocked off. Ken Rosenberg sends Tommy Vercetti to a party being hosted by retired Colonel, Juan Garcia Cortez. Ken Rosenberg instructs Tommy Vercetti to go to Rafael’s, a clothing store in Ocean Beach. Tommy asks "What's wrong with the way I'm dressed?" Ken replies "Hey, I like 1978 too, but, you know, this isn't gonna be a beer and strippers do."

The player then gets control of Tommy Vercetti outside of Ken Rosenberg's office, and the player must make their way to Rafael’s. Tommy walks into Rafael’s and comes out wearing a light blue/mauve pastel suit, and a paer of loafers. A biker pulls up on the other side of the street, Tommy watches, commenting about his bike (Nice bike!). The player regains control of Tommy Vercetti, and must now make their way to Colonel Cortez's yacht, which is also located in Washington Beach. The player can choose any means to get there, although if they take the Freeway left by the biker, the biker will chase after saying "My bike".

After getting to the dock area of Washington Beach, the player must then enter the pink halo in order to begin the next cut-scene, which is of the party. The cutscene begins with Tommy Vercetti and Colonel Cortez talking about the ambushed cocaine deal, and Cortez reveals he has started his own investigation into what happened. Cortez excuses himself to see to his guests, but asks his daughter Mercedes Cortez to show Tommy around.

Mercedes takes Tommy around the yacht to see the big players in Vice City, which include: Congressman Alex Shrub (Congressman), Candy Suxxx (Porn Star), BJ Smith (Football Player), Avery Carrington (Real-Estate Mogul), Donald Love (Carrington's Apprentice/Assistant), Jezz Torrent (Lead-Singer in the rising band LoveFist), Steve Scott (Film Director; mostly pornography), Pastor Richards (Corrupt Pastor), and Gonzales (Cortez's Right-Hand Man). Then Ricardo Diaz shows up and talks with Colonel Cortez, prompting Tommy to ask, "Who's the loudmouth?" Ricardo Diaz attempts to get to talk to Mercedes, who quickly makes the excuse of escorting Tommy back into town. Mercedes quickly leaves, and then asks Tommy to drive her to the Pole Position, a strip club (also in Washington Beach). There are various cars to choose from (Stretch, Cheetah, and the Freeway. The player must then drive Mercedes to the club. Along the way Mercedes flirts with Tommy. The mission finishes with a cut-scene of Mercedes entering the Pole Position club.

The reward for the mission is $100 and the soiree outfit becomes available at Rafael's.

Script

Ken: Go get some sleep, he says - I have been sitting in this chair all night with the lights off drinking coffee! This is a disaster. We are so screwed, man! These gorillas, listen to me, are gonna come down here and rip my head off. It's ridiculous! I did NOT go to law school for this! Ok, now what the hell are we gonna do?

Tommy: Shut up, sit down, relax. I'll tell you what we're gonna do. We're gonna find out who took our cocaine -and then, I'm gonna kill them.

Ken: That's a good idea. That's a GREAT idea. Let me think, let me think. OH! There's this retired Colonel, Colonel Juan Garcia Cortez. He's the one that helped me set up this deal well away from Vice City's established thugs. Ok? Now, listen. He's holding his party out in the bay on his expensive yacht and all of Vice City's big players are gonna be there. OK? I have an invite, of course I have an invite. But there's no way that I'm going out there, sticking my head out the door -

Tommy: I told you, shut up! I'll go myself...

Ken: Ho - whoa, whoa! Hey, I like 1978 too, but, you know, this isn't gonna be a beer and strippers do. I mean, no offense, but I think that you might turn heads on the runway for the wrong reasons.

Tommy: What's wrong with the way I'm dressed?

Ken: Ok, look, here. Stop by Rafael's, tell him I sent 'ya. He'll make you look respectable. OK, go, c'mon...

Cortez: Buenas noches. I understand you are here on the behalf of Mr. Rosenberg. I hope any recent problems have not affected his health, or uh, mental well being, Mr...uh?

Tommy: Vercetti. He's just got a touch of...agoraphobia.

Cortez: Excellent, excellent. And you?

Tommy: I just want my merchandise.

Cortez: Ah. It's an unfortunate set of circumstances for all involved. Of course I have initiated my own lines of inquiry, but such a delicate matter will take time. Perhaps we will talk later. Meanwhile, let me introduce you to my daughter, Mercedes! Caramia, could you look after our guest while I attend to my necessary obligations?

Mercedes: Of course, daddy.

Cortez: Please excuse me.

Tommy: Mercedes!?

Mercedes: You try living with it. Anyway, let me point out some of our more distinguished guests...That's our congressman Alex Shrub with rising silicone star Candy Suxxx...

Shrub: And have you met my lovely wife Laura? No? Well, unfortunately she's in Alabama. This is Candy.

Mercedes: And over there we have the Vice City Mambas' star tight end, BJ - always the charmer.

BJ: I blocked down on him and then I put him in a wheelchair!

Avery: Haha, that is good! Well now, I'm looking at some prime real estate property.

Mercedes: And that poolside amphibian is Jezz Torrent,lead singer with Love Fist.

Jezz: Can I tell yous - do you know how they play ping-pong in Thailand? Let me tell you's, it does not involve a paddle, if you know what I mean!

Mercedes: Impotent. And the chatty trio. That walking sweat gland is Papa's right hand gimp, Gonzalez. And the other two are Pastor Richards and pseudo intellectual film director, Steve Scott.

Steve: ...passion with the nympho invaders, when the giant shark comes in and just bites their dicks off! Ha now, you never saw anything like that before, have you?

Diaz: Colonel! Your parties as ever are a triumph, hahahaha! I can only apologize for my late arrival.

Cortez: Ah, de nada amigo. How do we find you?

Diaz: Our business is very trying - barbarians at the gates. A time for rewarding one's friends and liquidating one's enemies, amigo.

Tommy: Who's the loudmouth?

Mercedes: Ricardo Diaz. He's Mr. Coke.

Diaz: Mercedes!

Mercedes: Oh, I was just taking my friend back into town. Another time, Ricardo! Let's get out of here. Actually, take me to the Pole Position club.

Mercedes: I'll see you around...

Tommy: I'm sure you will!
