Flag of Mexico.

Mexico is a country in North America, south of the US and north of Guatemala and Belize and west of Cuba. Various gangs, especially in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, have their origins from Mexico. Mexico is referenced in various games.

Real life

In Mexico, Grand Theft Auto games are not edited and are generally released in that country without controversy. Technically, the ESRB is recognised in the country, but their decisions are not legally enforced. Grand Theft Auto games in Mexico are usually released the same day as in the United States.

GTA 1

• San Andreas has a large Mexican community, which is often in conflict with the Chinese community.
• El Burro, the leader of a gang in the city, is believed to be Mexican.
  • The gangsters who work for him may also be Mexican. These include: Paco, Pepe, Jorge, Jose, Pedro, Alfonso and Rodrigo.

GTA Vice City

• Between 1984 and 1986 Victor Vance and Lance Vance are operating out of Mexico. This is revealed in hidden text files in Grand Theft Auto Vice City.
• A gun-running organisation working against Phil Cassidy in the city are believed to be from Mexico, including their leader Pedro Garcia.

GTA San Andreas

• The Los Santos Vagos, Varrios Los Aztecas and San Fierro Rifa are all of Mexican origin. This may also mean their gang members (Cesar Vialpando, Hazer, Gal, [[
• The gangsters from the above listed gangs may also be from Mexico These include:
  • Cesar Vialpando, Gal, Hazer, Jose and Sunny from the Varrios Los Aztecas.
  • Big Poppa and Freddy from the Los Santos Vagos.
  • T-Bone Mendez from the San Fierro Rifa.
  • Carl Johnson in fact refers to Cesar being Mexican in the mission First Date.
• Jimmy Hernandez was revealed as being Mexican when Eddie Pulaski apologises to Hernandez after calling a Taxi driver a 'stupid Mexican' during the opening cutscene.
• The Mexican Restaurant is located in Los Santos.
• The Mexican Food & Salvadorean Food store in El Corona, Los Santos sells Mexican and El Salvadorean food.
• The Groceries Productos Mexicanos, Productos Mexicano and Productos Mexicano Flowers businesses, both located in East Los Santos, sell Mexican products.
• Pan Mexicano is another business selling Mexican products based out of East Los Santos and Los Flores, Los Santos.
• Muerto-Mex is a Mexican eatery in Santa Maria Beach, Los Santos.

GTA Advance

• Cisco, the Colombian Cartel leader, states in the mission Decoy Disaster that he has an identity card provided by the Mexican government.

GTA Vice City Stories

• The Cholos is of Mexican origin.
• Pablo, a character on the radio program Moorehead Rides Again, is a Mexican stereotype.

GTA IV

• The Liberty City Police Department believe Alfonso Vasquez is a cocaine baron with control over 'a number' of Mexican cartels.
• Guadalajara and Mexico City are mentioned in internet pages in GTA IV.
• El Chamuco Roboto is advertised in GTA IV as the 'robotic future... from south of the border'.
• Richard Bastion, host of The Richard Bastion Show, recommends one of his listeners to shoot an innocent Mexican man on a subway. Bastion refers to him as "Al Con Queso", a "Spanish terrorist".
• The airline Air Sol may be based in Mexico and based off the real-life Mexican Sol beer.

• The flag of Mexico can be seen in the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto V (0:16).
