The Exchange is the last storyline mission in Grand Theft Auto III.

Walkthrough

Brief

Catalina has killed Asuka Kasen and kidnapped Maria Latore and now, if you want her back, you'll have to bring $50.000 to her mansion in Cedar Grove.

The Mission

The mission is split in three parts:

1) Ending The Truce: As you arrive in the Cartel Mansion with the cahs, the men from the Colombian Cartel will let you in. Catalina will show up and you'll give her the cash, but she won't go with her end of the bargain, she won't give you Maria and she'll take the cash. Catalina leaves and then tells one of her men to kill you, but as he prepares to shoot you, you deliver a hard elbow blow to the face and snatch his gun.

Now, pick up the gun and run for your life! Head for the garage, and quick, since the Cartel men will start shooting at you. When you're in the garage, pick up the armor spawn ther and get in the Cartel Cruiser parked there, then, run over the Cartel men and get out through the gate. You will see how Catalina pulls Maria into a Maverick helicopter, then gets in with her. The chopper takes off and heads for Cochrane Dam, follow it there and the second part of this mission starts.

2) The Dam Shootout: When you arrive at Cochrane Dam, the Cartel will be waiting for you, ram through their blockade and get in the Dam. Ram your way through some Cartel men and then get out, start shooting. Kill your way through the Cartel men until you reach the M4 Carbine spawn, pick it up and shoot the heavily armed Cartel men. Eventually you'll reach a bunch of Cartel guys, three heavily armed and one riding a Barracks OL, kill the guy in the Barracks by shooting through the windshield and then killed the heavily armed guys with the Carbine.

3) S.A.M.: Surface to Air Missile: Eventually, Catalina will drop off Maria at the dam and continue her way, but first she wants to kill you. More Cartel guys will come after you, but Catalina will attack from above, dropping bombs from her chopper and setting the Dam on fire. Make your way thropugh the dead and living Cartel gunmen and you'll reach the Dam loading bay. Two Cartel men will be guarding Maria, kill them and go towards her, now Maria will follow you. Go towards the edge of the loading bay, there's a Rocket launcher set up there, pick it up. Then take aim at Catalina's chopper and end this, fire a rocket at it, the copter will get hit, spin out of control and explode. It's over, Catalina is dead, most of the Cartel has been slaughtered in this vicious gun battle and your enemies are finished. Mission complete. The game has a happy ending.

In the final cutscene an Announcer describes the gun battle with testimony from a witness, Clive Denver.

Script

(Cartel Mansion, Catalina.) (Claude arrives at the Cartel mansion, he is searched by some Cartel goons and they let him through the gate, there he meets Catalina and a goon who is holding Maria.)

Catalina: The real qustion is, did you turn up to rescue Maria, or to get me back? Well I got news for you, shooting you will be a pleasure but dating you was only business! You are muy pequeñito, amigo. Throw over the cash.

(Claude hands the briefcase with the money to Catalina, Catalina opens the case and looks inside.)

Catalina: You have been a busy boy! But you haven't learned, I'm not to be trusted. Kill the idiot!

(Catalina leaves and a Cartel man puts a gun to Claude's head, however, Cluade elbows the Cartel man in the face and snatches his gun, then proceeds to shoot his way out of the place and heads for the Cochrane Dam in pursue of Catalina.)

(Cochrane Dam, Cartel Man.)

Cartel Man: Here he is, shoot him!

(Loading Bay, Catalina.) (Catalina gets in her chopper after dropping Maria.)

Catalina: Get this thing airborne!!

(Claude finishes of the Cartel men and then shoots down Catalina's chopper.)

(Cochrane Dam, Announcer, Maria and Clive Denver.)

Announcer: Residents in Cedar Grove have been coming to terms with the emotional aftermath of a full blown war that hit the area yesterday. Local resident Clive Denver described to the police a single gunman he saw leaving the scene with a dark haired woman.

Maria: Oh, you know we're gonna have such fun, 'cos you know, you know, I love you,I ,I ,I ,I ,I really do, 'cos you're such a big strong man and that's just what I need. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh, you know, I forget. But you know how it's like, don't you?

Announcer: The sound of explosions shook nearby homes as people ran for cover. Several citizens were injured as ground fire was exchanged between ground forces and a helicopter circling the dam.

Clive Denver: Yeah, we got a good view down here in the gardens. When the copter finally got taken out, better than the fireworks on the 4th of July.

Announcer: With the death toll already over twenty, police are still finding bodies. Thre have been no official denials concerning rumors that the dead were members of the Colombian Cartel, and still no leads as to the cause of the massacre. More updates soon.
